Well the latest crap is in!! I was told by the Moco that I was on the borderline of having my engine repaired and warranted. All that they are repairing is the Pistons and Rings. I still have no idea why the Pistons and Rings Failed????????????? My dealer stated that my flywheel is ok and the Harley rep states that my flywheel is still good. It was explained to me that the Moco is tightening there belt about warranty work and that I was a very fortunate guy to have this motor repaired because the area rep and Moco stated that I have taken my bike out of warranty by adding slip-ons and a custom intake plus my RT. The Moco also stated that since I was not using the recommended oils in the motor and P&T that that also was taking me out of warranty. I was told that there are 2 types of Harley riders. Ones that ride there bikes Stock and follow the warranty and ones that modify there bikes and they must pay out of there own pocket if they have failures. Believe me I think this is a crock of _ _ _ _ but that the MOCO is loosing there butts on warranty work and they are tightening up the ship on warranty work. Well I splurged and purchased a 3 yr maint plan and I am going to only allow them at my local dealer to work on it so I will play there game!! If something happens to that 110 motor again and I know that it will they can fix it!! This whole situation has me really down on Harley and I'm afraid to ride BLUU whenever it gets finished. I have slowly lost my love for Harley!!!

Actually there is a third type of Harley rider, the ones that never ride, just sit them in a garage.  HD's favorite.  As you will certainly here a few more times, the oil requirement is pure BS.  When I tried the Lemon law with the failing 2nd motor in my 07 SERK, HD also said I caused the famous oil leak by changing the slip on mufflers.  I have it in writing.  As far as the Lemon Law, each state is different, but for autos as well they have an expected life in mileage clearly stated. In MA. I believe it is 20,00 miles, which means if you win, it is prorated based on your mileage versus the stated expected life.  Some states have higher mileage, some lower.
What you wrote is why I'll keep buying older bikes, better quality, and not worrying about a useless warranty.  BTW, the 110 motor can't be fixed by HD under warranty, only parts replaced that fail do to poor design and poor quality.

Bear, unfortunately you may have made an assumption without a foundation.  The independent insurer that is the extended "warranty" provider can as easily (if not more easily) deny a claim for perceived abuse as can the MoCo.  The dealer will get paid for any work by that third party service provider.  So they'll be beholding to them for those repairs and not to you.  Small jobs the service contractor is likely not to say anything about.  Large jobs they can and do get in the middle of just as the MoCo was in the middle of your latest engine repair.

All these things the MoCo has been "telling" you really should have been documented.  Early on in this process they should have been told to put any response in writing and that you weren't engaging in undocumented conversations.  Because some of the stuff they've told you is just bupkus and could be beneficial to you later on.  What a mess.....

An awful lot of "stated" from the dealer.
I also think it will be difficult to get any of the "stated" in writing from the dealer.
But to cover your ass, how about an email to the General manager/owner of the dealership that reads along the following.

Dear Mr. Owner/General Manager

On this date I spoke with your employee(and name his name) and he told me this.(and tell it all) On another date I spoke with your employee(and name that guy's name) and he told me that. I have asked all these people to put this in writing but none will. They tell me the information they give me is the policy of this dealership but can't put it in writing. So I am following up in writing to physically document what I have been told. If my information is incorrect I would appreciate a response with the correct information.

Yours truly
Loyal and potentially happy CVO owner

I can't believe you gave them even more money! Now you're at the dealer's mercy for service and have to do it according to their schedule, maybe even inconvenience yourself to drop it off, get a ride to/from, etc. And then the next time the motor craps the bed, they can still blame your slip-ons if they please.  :nixweiss:

I understand that and I went on a gut decision but if I'm going to keep this 110 I needed to align with my only local dealer. If that back fires in my face I will give up the Harley Dream and move onto bigger and better things and I will always know why Harley has lasted this long!!

In the entire Tucson area there's not a single competent independent shop?  A way to get off the MoCo's teat and still enjoy the bike?  Independent shops can service under the extended warranty too.  They have to jump through a few hoops to get set up for it.  But it's possible.

There are a couple of them here in Tucson but I have personally seen some pretty shabby work come out of them. I guess I could do the Phoenix thing but that incurs more money and travel.

I cant agree more.
People on this site are the exception to that rule.
Most people I know that have bikes are lucky to put 1,000 miles a year on there bike and MOCO knows that.
Thats why I find myself riding alone a lot, they are to busy cleaning them or bragging to everyone that they have one.
But never seem to ride it.
We all put a lot of miles are our bikes and certainly put them through there paces more then most.
I do believe that is why we report more failures.
As for them doing so much warranty work!  (IF THEY MADE A BETTER PRODUCT IT WOULDN'T BE A f*&^IN PROBLEM, WOULD IT). >:(
I think its an utter shame the way they are treating you and it upsets me to no end.
I have worked for GM Dealers in the past and have seen the same type of problems with them not wanting to warranty stuff.
But usually if the customer yelled loud enough it would get done, not sure if MOCO is the same.
Its a tough decision for all of us.
They tell us not to alter there bikes but to truly enjoy them we must, due to the EPA restrictions. (Damn shame)
I have not even got my FLHTCUSE6 home yet and I pretty much have been told be the Dealer that the MOCO  may not warranty my bike due to modifications already made.
I figure its a crap shoot anymore, I got lucky with my last 2 bikes. 2004 FXDWG, we built the motor and put 84,000 hard miles on it before I sold it with no problems.
Then we put cams and some other stuff in my FLHTCUSE3 and put over 40,000 miles on it with only the head gasket recall done and no other problems.
So hopefully I will have he same luck with this one, and if not I will try my hardest too make them fix the problem(provided my modification did not cause the problem). Haha

I was going to purchase an older bike like some of you mentioned.
But I was so excited about the new frame design so I went with the new one.
I will tell you all this, it will be my last new bike.
And if the motor does fail, I will deal with it somehow.

Best of luck to you, but what ever happens please don't let them make you scared to ride you bike.' ;D
Run it, have fun, if it lets go have it fixed your way and never worry again.

Dave

That's the issue!! I ride the hell out of my 10 SEUC. I had my 2008 SEUC and I put 48,000 miles on it in 2 yrs. Funny thing is the Moco Rep stated that Mother Harley is aware of the problems I  had on my 2008 motor and now I am having problems on my 2010. I stated to them that the problem I had on my 2008 was a major oil leak on my rear cylinder and there was a SB to replace heads and gaskets. They don't see it that way and they believe the add-ons and oil I have been using has caused all my proplems in my 2008 and now BLUU with 2 motors. They state they have me flagged and that are watching me and my bike very closely now. If I could get more than 7000 miles on the motors on my 2010 SEUC I would be really happy!!

Wow, they have you flagged!
Believe me they are just making up reasons to you.
If they had a legal leg to stand on they WOULD NOT warranty your bike.
IMHO, they are not doing it to be a nice MOCO, its because behind all the Roderic they know they have to fix it. (legally)
I know its easy for me to say all this sitting on the outside.
But think about it, if they could tell you know they wood, and don't you doubt that for a second.
I saw GM do it to everyone they could, the only warranty work they paid for was what they legally had to, and no more.
Cant imagine MOTHER HARLEY is any different.
Just sayin.

To me the real problem is if you do what they say, it may get your bike through warranty , but then what.
It will be out of warranty and ready to break again on your dime.

IMHO, the MOCO only cares if your bike makes it till warranty is up.
And that is some true crap.
Again, good luck to you, and sorry for spouting off.
Take care
Dave

DESERTBEAR54,

Sorry to hear the Moco and dealer are giving you the shaft on this one.

As others have said... the Magnuson-Moss warranty act covers the BS they are feeding you.

The problems have to be directly attributed to the modifications to deny warranty.

If they tell you not approved oils, then they must provide oil to you free of charge....for the warranty duration.

Put the bike back to stock and see how long it lasts using the OE EPA tune and Syn3 oil...  :huepfenlol2:

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
