I'm also thinking of an aftermarket seat for my 2011 Orange/Black SESG. Several people have indicated the factory '11 seat isn't too bad, so I will try it for a while, but I want a backup plan in case.
My history with Corbin: I have bought 3 Corbin seats in the past; all of them were Dual Tours with the heated option. The first was for my '06 Ultra, and it fit and looked great. It attached with the key lock system which works very well. My neighbor bought this bike from me, and the seat is still holding up very well and is in great condition. He really likes the seat, too.
Based on this, I ordered another for my '07 SEUC. The Dual Tour no longer used the key lock system; instead using a front tongue and rear screw like the OEM seat. This Corbin fit the frame so poorly that I sent it back so they could try and rework. After several weeks I received the seat again and it fit no better than the first time. I complained to Jenni (w/Tri-County now) since I purchased through her, and she arranged a return/refund. Great service from Jenni -- horrible effort from Corbin.
Call me a fool, but I gave Corbin one more chance, and ordered a third Dual Tour for my '09 Ultra. This seat doesn't use the key lock system, either, but at least it fit the frame reasonably well. However, the seat was noticeably narrower across the butt area than my first two saddles, and Corbin didn't narrow the nose as I had originally requested. I returned the seat for a rework (1 free within the first year, supposedly) and Corbin lost track of the seat for several weeks!! After finally finding it, they contacted me and said it would cost approx. $300 for the rework since I wanted the seat area made wider. After a period of disbelief and then arguing with the rep., I told them to proceed. The seat wasn't any good to me unless I had the work done, so they had me over a barrel. All-in-all the seat is OK now, but I sure paid a LOT for only OK.
Based on my experiences, slotbike's assessment is spot-on!! For the money that Corbin charges, the quality of the product AND the customer service should be MUCH better than it is. Ordering a good seat from them is a crap-shoot ...
I would really like to get a saddle for my '11 SESG that is leather, heated and offers a rider backrest option. What alternatives to Corbin are there? LePera and Danny Gray offer nice seats, but no heated option and limited backrest capabilities. I don't think that C&C offers a heated option, either; although I could be mistaken. If I don't go with a heated seat, C&C looks to have some very nice saddles. Anybody have any other ideas?
