Corbin v. Le Pera
« on: February 04, 2011, 11:19:52 AM »

Ok, I'm probably going to start a %^&* storm with this question, but here it goes anyway:  I'm looking to replace the stock seat on my 2010 Spiced Rum, and being that I'm in WI and I don't have a chance to go get a seat custom fit in CA, I'm looking for as much input as possible.

Requirements are as follows:

1.  Fit
2.  Comfort
3.  Looks
4.  has to be a two up.

Let me know what you think is the best thing to do here, and thanks for your input!

I've had many Corbin's and a Lepera......THE BEST SEAT IS A C&C!  Why?????  Easy!  C & C is a small GREAT company to deal with.  They will do custom work (like stitching etc.) and you can get a backrest! Their seats are the most comfortable and fit great!

Lepera........GREAT PRODUCT, GREAT COMPANY, no backrests available!

Corbin (oh boy) First, they are a completely dysfunctional company.  I have had 5 seats from them and 4 of them were made wrong and had to go back....AND THEY WERE ALL FOR HARLEY'S, go figure! I know so many people who have received wrong, defective and (just plain) bad product from them, that I would stay clear of them....If I Were You, JMHO! They also only make seats with their ugly stitching now instead of smooth plain  seating surfaces like they used to make.  I will NEVER EVER buy another Corbin product.

C&C Seats Blows them away in every category! I already have a C&C Solo, Back rest and passenger seat here waiting to go on my Kryptonite CVO Streetglide when it comes in, in a week or two!

I can't speak to the other seats, but I've had three Corbins...one on a Ducati MTS, another on a '06 SEUC (with heat), and another on a Yamaha Stratoliner.  All fit perfectly, and the workmanship was excellent.  In fact, they all improved the look of the bikes as well, IMO.  For my butt, Corbin works, and you can get whatever kind of backrest you want with them, as long as it is a Corbin.  ;)

Corbin makes a good seat but they are way too hard for me.  I feel like I am sitting on a wooden bench.  I'm not big on their looks either, but I know that a lot of people like them and swear by them.  Personally, I have the Drag Specialties seats on both bikes and love them.  My BSR likes them a lot better than the stock seats as well.  They give a lot of support without feeling like a brick, and they look good too!

Ok so, let's add C&C into the mix.  I'll have to do some research on them as well ;D

C&C is my vote!  Nice styles, many options, good prices, comfortable, and very good customer service!

Hands down, Corbin!  Once Van (vanamal) introduced me to Corbin, I was able to sell the other ten seats I had hanging in my garage.  I would suggest, if you're not able to go to Corbin in person then order it through Jim (hd-dude on this forum) as he knows what issues are peculiar to the CVOs.

Corbin has about 15 different types of leathers and about 20 different colors of threads and stitched to any pattern you'd like.  Jon (jonga on this forum) came up with two different colors sewn side by side in a flame pattern.....  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=40248.msg642448#msg642448

I'm also thinking of an aftermarket seat for my 2011 Orange/Black SESG. Several people have indicated the factory '11 seat isn't too bad, so I will try it for a while, but I want a backup plan in case.

My history with Corbin: I have bought 3 Corbin seats in the past; all of them were Dual Tours with the heated option. The first was for my '06 Ultra, and it fit and looked great. It attached with the key lock system which works very well. My neighbor bought this bike from me, and the seat is still holding up very well and is in great condition. He really likes the seat, too.

Based on this, I ordered another for my '07 SEUC. The Dual Tour no longer used the key lock system; instead using a front tongue and rear screw like the OEM seat. This Corbin fit the frame so poorly that I sent it back so they could try and rework. After several weeks I received the seat again and it fit no better than the first time. I complained to Jenni (w/Tri-County now) since I purchased through her, and she arranged a return/refund. Great service from Jenni -- horrible effort from Corbin.

Call me a fool, but I gave Corbin one more chance, and ordered a third Dual Tour for my '09 Ultra. This seat doesn't use the key lock system, either, but at least it fit the frame reasonably well. However, the seat was noticeably narrower across the butt area than my first two saddles, and Corbin didn't narrow the nose as I had originally requested. I returned the seat for a rework (1 free within the first year, supposedly) and Corbin lost track of the seat for several weeks!! After finally finding it, they contacted me and said it would cost approx. $300 for the rework since I wanted the seat area made wider. After a period of disbelief and then arguing with the rep., I told them to proceed. The seat wasn't any good to me unless I had the work done, so they had me over a barrel. All-in-all the seat is OK now, but I sure paid a LOT for only OK.

Based on my experiences, slotbike's assessment is spot-on!! For the money that Corbin charges, the quality of the product AND the customer service should be MUCH better than it is. Ordering a good seat from them is a crap-shoot ...

I would really like to get a saddle for my '11 SESG that is leather, heated and offers a rider backrest option. What alternatives to Corbin are there? LePera and Danny Gray offer nice seats, but no heated option and limited backrest capabilities. I don't think that C&C offers a heated option, either; although I could be mistaken. If I don't go with a heated seat, C&C looks to have some very nice saddles. Anybody have any other ideas?

I got the Danny Gray Speedcradle for my 2011 SESG and love it.  I've put about 500 miles on it and it just gets better.

Can anyone confirm the issue with C&C and issues with fitting it over a PCV module.  Not a lot of space under there.

Had a Corbin and after 2 returns back to the factory, they got the fit right and it was a good quality seat. Also had a C&C--great customer service and fit right the first time.

Here's a pic of my SESG2 with a C&C solo mounted. I just put it on as well as the Tour Pak w/Anderson bracket so I can adjust the mounting. I do not have a PCV module but check with Chuck. I would think if it fit under the stock seat it will fit with this seat too.

Hoist and LarryB sat on my C&C solo equipped SERG4. Both remarked the seat was a firm as their Corbin seats. I don't think you'll go wrong with either one.
