Do your Harley LED passing lights fog up?
« on: February 07, 2011, 09:15:23 AM »

My HD LED passing lights partially fog up after they are on a few minutes.  I was told by the dealer this is normal.  Is it?

I'm concerned that if there's that much moisture inside the lights it may cause a corrosion problem later.

Could be caused by too many wheelies. :nixweiss: :)

Ran around for about an hour this evening with the Passing Light(LED)s on.  No fogging.  Temp was about 62 with a humidity of approx. 10%.  Damn, I love Florida.  Will test more and let you know. :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink:

Yes. I have only had mine on for a short time, and haven't had a chance to ride much, but I DID not some fogging on the Aux Lamps, just above the lighting element. Kind of dismissed it but decided I would watch it....which I will do, but they HAVE fogged (a little) at least once. I will continue to watch it.

I've ridden with the new aux lights in temps ranging from 38 - 60 deg F, during the day and night, through clear, foggy, and rainy conditions.  Other than the moisture collecting on the outside of the lamp when conditions were so, I have not noticed any moisture inside.

I did notice that the seal on one of the aux lamps was not set properly and the dealer has another on order to replace it (warranty replacement); however, even with the seal being a bit off, it seems to have sealed tight.

I wonder if they had a batch they put together when the ambient moisture level was say 80% and some residual moisture is sealed inside.  :nixweiss:

Update: Changed my vote to yes.  I have noticed moisture inside the lamps.  I should clarify that I only have noticed it once.  The more I think about it, it was raining that day, and the moisture index was way up.  I'll try to see if I can catch it again and determine if there were any contributing factors.

Both of my Harley LED passing lamps developed condensation on the inside after being caught in the rain for a short 5 minute ride.  Been there for a few weeks and I am sure it is there for good.  They are sealed units and should not leak.  I am trying to get mine replaced.

Wish me luck!

Can't be something you'd want to see.  No matter how much "others do it" it'll eventually lead to lack of clarity on the inside of the lens.  Whether it be from growth of some kind or just repetitive fogging it won't keep the clarity it had to begin with.  Especially when you add in that the LED lights may not get hot enough to bake things off like a halogen might do.

I still have never had fog in my LED lights.  They are sealed and I do not know how there could ever be any fog in them.

Never have seen any in mine. Guess I'll keep an eye on them from now on seeing there are quite a few of you that have.
