Look for a 1990 - 1995 Corvette ZR-1
they range from $10,000 to 35,000 all has to do with miles, a 1990 with less then 15,000 is 22,000 to 28,000

If you have never been in one, you need to.

I have had a 1990 from new and it is a thrill even after 21 years.

Kind of like the CVO!

do the 90s ZR-1 models still have such a high resale value because of performance?

Guess I'll have to get out this weekend and drive some of the suggested rides above and see what trips my trigger.

Thanks for all the responses!

Do your research on the ZR1 motor...

That 32 Valve monster is a handfull... on both the technical aspect, and if youre not able to do work yourself.. finding a competent person who worked on this Mercury Marine/Yamaha powerplant.

There were some quirks.. the starter is in the lifter galley... serviceable by pulling the intake.

Found a local 08 Z4si on Craigslist. Dealer has been trying to sell for a month. Started @ $30k... down to $25k now. 18k miles. Might have to go check it out. (Would post link, but can't from my phone.)

One of those little sketchy dealers, so I'm thinking there's got to be something up with the car

Well it could be a repo or auction car. Doesn't mean there is anything wrong with it. Probably just need to have a good mechanic take a look at it. Best of luck.

I'm not a fan on the Z4 body style so I went with a Z3. It's actually called a M Roadster but it's based on the Z3 and has a lot more HP. I picked it up in August for $20,000.00, it had 9,500 miles on it. A Corvette probably is still the best bang for the buck.

I think the 1990 ZR-1 is not at a high resale valve. I bought it new with a dealer order in mid 1989 got it 1-20-90 and paid list (59,995.00). at the time it was like buying a CVO.
most dealers wanted from 12,000 to 25,000 over list, so their are some out their that some one paid 90,000 to 100,000 for it.

It has been falling in valve for the last 15 years and is at a low point now. Still might go lower, no one knows.
the 60,000 to 100,000 mile ones are 15,000 to 20,000 now and over 100,000 + miles are the 15,000 and down to a low of 7500.
the motors were built to the hilt, no problems with 100,000 + miles.

their are some small things that will need to be replaced, like the starter if it goes bad and you do need to pull the top off to get to it.
don't want the starter problem.......never wash a ZR-1 motor! worst thing you can do to it.
if  you do have a problem that you can not fix, their are three shops one in Chicago, TX, and KY, that can do major motor rebuild, and the parts can be found.

One of those little sketchy dealers, so I'm thinking there's got to be something up with the car

On our second Z-4.  Great car - good head room for a rag top & you get most of the trunk to use as a trunk due to the way BMW stores the top there.  Would stay away from the 2003 Z-4s - some of these (first year for the model) had issues.  Currently have an 06, drive it all over locally & on long trips & it will run with most any of the coupes in it's class & handles much better than some other 'ahem' coupe brands which shall remain nameless.  Z-4s were made in the US in Spartanburg, SC until the 08 or 09 model - then they went to Germany.

Should be able to find a lot of these in your price range.  There is also an "M" model of this car which is a HELLUVA lot of fun to drive.  The sport version with more ponies.

I've been a fan of the M Coupe... though it resembles a honda Civic with a long nose.

I have a 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GT-6. The body styling is too cool for school, the convertible top works like a swiss watch, the interior fits me like a glove, it is an incredibly fun car to drive, has a killer sound system (Rockford Fosgate) has all the power and handling I have talent to make use of  ALL at a price of less than the cost of a new CVO Harley.

Go with the Vette.  Cheaper to buy and cheaper to maintain.  Plus its an American made legend.  Performance beyond any other car in the same price range.
Made in the USA.
