Help with wheel chock
« on: March 07, 2011, 01:09:03 PM »

I just purchased the Harbor Freight floor stand wheel chock, holds my Ultra, but I can't get it out of the stand.  I put rubber mats under it to keep it from sliding, but nothing helps.  Does not slide but I can't pull it out.  I have had to jack up the bike, and the rocker comes up with the bike stuck to the tire.  What am I doing wrong?  Should I be adjusting the stand  so the wheel does not go in as far? It is the stock front tire.

I'd be concerned about having anything Harbor Freight near my bike. Seriously, out of all of the crap that comes out of China, their stuff is the worse quality. I'd suggest returning it if you can and get a quality design from Condor, Wheel Dock, or a number of others, before you come home one day and see your bike toppled over. My .02 fwiw.

I agree with mrrmagloo,  I bought a "Lock&Load" at Sturgis a couple of years ago for for a couple of hundred bucks. Good unit. My Dad gave me a whole lot of grief about getting taken. He said he would go to Harbor Freight get the same thing for forty bucks. Long story short, he opens his trailer last year at Sturgis and the thing broke in half and his Beautiful Heritage softtail was laying on its side.  You payed a lot of money for your Bike.  Don't go cheap on important things.  Stay away from Harbor Freight.

This time you got just what you paid for.  Look at a Wheeldock after you get your Ultra released.  Sorry.

So you received lots of advice on which chock you should have got, but did you ever get your bike unstuck from the HF wheel chock?

BTW  +1 on the wheeldock and they are down to $199 now.

You likely have a rocker that is not properly sized for your tire size...  Most wheel chocks come with at least two sizes of rockers to choose from...

I use K & L wheel chocks in my trailer...  http://www.discountramps.com/zinc-motorcycle-wheel-chock.htm

I have 2 Condor wheel chocks. My Street Glide and Ultra would both occasionally kinda stick. Since they are positioned against a concrete knee wall, my method was to just bump forward and usually that would unstick wheel. This weekend I parked my SERG in a chock, when I went to pull it out, it was not not going to happen...it was locked up tight!! I pulled the bike back 3-4 feet and drug the chock with it. Put the bike in gear and carefully back to the wall for a little rock...still stuck. I did this three times without success. Finally the rescue team arrived, my wife and daughter. They both stood, one on each side of the chock to help push as I pulled, that finally did the trick. Last summer also my Glide had been parked in the Condor for 3-4 days, I go out in the garage Sunday morning (Fathers Day to be exact) and the Glide is laying on it's side. My son helped me get the bike back up and announced Happy Fathers Day dad!! While watching my disgusted face he replied, it could of fell the other way and took down both bikes. Anyone have a spare manual??

This is so typical. A guys asks a question about how to operate an item, and he gets a dozen replies by people pumping up their own items. Can someone actually answer his question?

I think most did answer his question. Buy a quality chock.
When you buy a cheap wheel chock it's hard to back the bike out.
As sadunbar said, most chocks have different rockers for different size tires.
If the tire is stuck in the rocker then the rocker is the wrong size.
And you didn't answer his question either.

Some people trust those wheel lock docks a lot more than I do. I've actually seen them in use on trailers where the users wheel lock the front wheel and tie down the back... No way,,,not me   :'(  They can't be that trustworty regardless of brand,,, anyone here doing this???
