One day rental out of Vegas
« on: March 14, 2011, 11:36:47 AM »

The wife and I and some friends are renting a couple Street Glides in Vegas in a few days. We'll have the bikes for 24 hours. Any suggestions?

Red Rock Canyon, stop at Bonnie Springs for Lunch and Beer
Then Valley of Fire for sure!

Other options are Hoover Dam Run, Mt Charleston Loop ... all short runs.

Couple of years ago we rented from L.V. H.D. They picked us up at the hotel and took us to the dealership. After a short "proficiency" demo we went to Kingman, Az. via Hoover dam. Lots of dessert. Made a right turn on Rt. 66. Stopped in Oatman and off to Laughlin. Back to Vegas in the dark. Very good trip. Delivered the bike to the dealer the next day and they took us to the hotel. Money well spent.

I rented a SG from the Dealer on Eastwood and did a loop up 15 to Valley of fire, east to Mead, then down along the western shore on Northshore then Lake Shore, to Hoover Dam, then back thru Bolder on 93.  Nice day trip.  If you go to the dealers website, they have a number of recommended tour maps.

Just got back this past Sat. The weather was awesome and getting better and the month goes on. We rented a car at budget and they had a RG and SG sitting right there when you walk out to your car.  Not sure if they (Budget) had them or not due to them having ALL the rentals under one roof.  If you get a chance check out the Titanic Exhibition. http://www.luxor.com/entertainment/titanic.aspx I really thought they did a great job and to see all the artifacts was amazing. As for day trips I wish I could be more help but we just did the tourist stuff like shows, walking to the casinos and relaxing.

Topper

BTW we stayed at the Aria and it was beautiful..http://www.arialasvegas.com/

Yeah. Was/am specifically looking for ideas/suggestions as to where to go, what to do during the 24 hours we're renting the bikes.

Thanks for the responses so far...

My Suggestion would be:
1.   Pick up bike at Las Vegas Harley-Davidson 2605 South Eastern Ave
2.   Head out I-15 N to Exit 75 to Valley of Fire State Park
3.   Do the large loop there
4.   Leave there for Hoover Dam past Lake Mead
5.   Maybe Stop at one of the big Marinas on the lake
6.   Do Hoover Dam, Get a beer and a hotdog
7.   Head back thru Henderson stopping at Henderson HD for a T-Shirt
8.   Now back to Vegas on Boulder HWY and either head straight into the Freemont or head to the west side of vegas on Blue Diamond and head to Reck Rock Canyon
9.   Do the 13 mile loop there
10.   Time dependant... Back track a couple miles for a beer stop at Bonnie Springs
11.   Then head back to strip

Depending on time the next day you can do red rock canyon and Bonnie Springs then instead and you can add Mount Charleston Loop as well before heading back to drop off the bike.

None of these are long stints… no more than 90 minutes between stops, and only a total of 200 miles or so, but with site seeing stops, food and refreshment, a Harley store or 2… you have a full day for sure!
LVHD has free shuttle to and from the strip and will give you detailed maps for each of theses locations because many people do each one in a loop using the strip as the hub.

OH YEAH
Cruise the strip from end to end at night. Lot of traffic but quite a nice feeling and you really see the lights!

AND YES GET THE INSURANCE!
