Hmm, Is that like six in one hand, and a half dozen in the other? [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif] Makes one wonder if there is really in savings in the add-ons that come stock on the CVO's versus doing it "your" way from the start with a plain jane scooter. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I did the computation in 2002 for my FLHRSEI.  Really wasn't anything I didn't want other than the seat, backrest and windshield (which I sold on ebay).

Much more expensive to buy yourself, not everything COULD be bought anyway and you have to put in on (or pay to have put on) and then there are miscellaneous bits all over the garage... [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I like the CVO route and then the mods are less (even though the whining is more  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif])

I did the math on my 2003 FLHRSEI2...no mentionable savings

Once again on the 2005 FLHRSEI2...no mentionable savings

To date, the savings was in resale not the purchase. The CVOs were holding their value. Now that MOCO has flooded the market with CVOs and off the shelf scoots, the resale isn't what it used to be.

I had no issue with buying a 30K SERK then 3K in add-ons (Average Joe - SERT, Pipes, AC and the Chrome it should have come with) to turn around and sell it for 30K.

3K...10% cost of enjoyment. Ill take that type of depreciation all day long.

Today, 30K for the SEEG another 3K and if I were to sell it...

I won't even post the $$$$, that in itself could be another post.

I have to put my vote in for Mustang seats.  I have one on my '02 Nighttrain and love it.  I have to give Mustang the Highest Kudo's on customer Service they re-covered my seat for FREE--yes FREE, and paid for the shipping back to me in Alaska!  Once they found out I was in the military, they waived the $150 recovering fee.  They have my business from now on!! Corbin does make some nice lookin' seats!! Ride on ! BK

Just got corbin seat (approx 4 weeks). Much firmer than stock, no rear numbness at 200 miles! Seat feels like sits a little higher and neck area may be a little wider. Had to readjust highway pegs some.

It did not show on the other pic I posted, but Corbin add extra "ostrichoid" leather insert on rider bucket from the seat Big AL posted earlier.

I'm at the point that I think my next bike will be a plain Jane Streetglide.

I end up changing everything anyway. I might as well spend 20K+20K instead of 30K+10K and end up with exaclty what I want.

Just my .02

I've also thought about rolling my own, but if my $30,000 SEEG is stolen then the insurance will replace my $30,000 bike, - depreciation etc etc.  If I pay $18,000 for a street glide and put $20,000 in it and it gets stolen, well,  good luck with the insurance company.

The "total covered" Ostrich or Alligator look is interesting, but the shape of the seat looks like it may support my big arse [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif].

I thought I would share another custom seat. It is from the folks at Russel Day Long Seats. These seats are rebuilt using the stock pan. Yes, I did have to send the stock seat to them. The new seat is built for the individual customer using photos, body measurements, and weight. So, my seat would not fit the average size guy.

While the day long seat is not the hottest looking one around, it has to be one of the most comfortable. I am extremly pleased with the fit and comfort. They were able to save the stock heaters. I chose full leather with the ostrich being actual quill leather. It adds a true richness to the Cuse.

Finally, a thumbs up [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] to Katy at Day Long. She was very good to work with and did what they committed to.

So what was the $ damage to you?  How long did it take to get your seat back?   Can you still use the factory backrest or can you get them to build one?

Thanks,

Mark

Mark,

I dropped around $800.00 for the seat. The haze shown on the Russell site(see Magic's post above) is mine. They list the seat cover as baby alligator, it is the quill ostrich. Hence, the added cost.

I was without the seat for about 4 weeks. That includes the time shipping to them, the build, and the return. Katy said that they could include the factory backrest. I choose to not use it, because of my height. You might consider allowing them to recover the factory backrest to get a better match. The ostrich leather is miles ahead of the factory quality. They saved the seat heaters at no additional cost. However, they had to locate the plugs further back and I had to add length to the wiring in order to hook them up.

All that said, I remain very pleased with the seat. The comfort in the ride was worth the coin. Katy will work very close with you to make sure you get the right fit. Each seat is built for the individual. I have had many compliments from the "seasoned riders". The photos do not do the seat justice.

Good luck and safe riding!

Ken
