Well said Hubbard [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I do see some of both sides though. I think it's a matter of expectations and anticipation.
If a person has waited a long time for "his dream ride" and it costs so much of their hard earned money it is hard to accept the problems.
There is a lot of emotion involed in the selection of any Harley for most of us. If we thought about a bike a simply practical transportation we would probably be riding something else. We also would not put so much money in modifying our bikes either. I think this may be an unheard of statement on this site but I have actually heard bikers say [highlight]"Chrome don't get you home"[/highlight] and they won't spend money on things that aren't functionaly related to riding. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
As far as expectations when the MOCO and others convince a person that a CVO is the top of the line and it's don't get any better, then you have a long waiting period and you spend so much money, an owner may have a unrealistic expectation of perfection. Think about this if you didn't have to wait and a CVO only cost $5,000 would folks complain as much?

Just in case anyone forgot, the other half of that is "but it will get you laid". I like that part  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

I think the MOCO is already worried that their fate may be the same as Oldmobile (R.I.P.) and the rest of GM and Ford.

To tell you the truth I'm not the one bitchin about the MOCO. I'm just replying to a thread in which I choose I had some personal insight on. I love my SERK,have had no problems with it(knock on wood).I made the descision to purchase a HD and I will stand behind it.Hubs as you pointed out that you ride an old mans bike or whatever that clown posted doesn't mean chit to me .You ride a HD and are proud to ride and upgrade it to fit your taste.Thats what I think is the driving force in previous sales of HD and probably their future as well.Remember when you bought your first HD you where just glad you had it,you weren't as savvy about the inner workings, lingo and mods that you know  now. Now that were here on this site it shows the pride you have in your HD.Something as a newbie rider didn't know.We live and learn and deep down we all love our HD's CVO or not, stock or totally modified. We wouldn't be here if we didn't.Motorcycling or being a biker is a lifestyle not a hobby,we do it cuz we live and breathe it.So to all my Bro's on this site ride safe and be safe. My .02 yet again. Q

Interesting thread...  I would agree 100% with the fact that quality and change are needed.  Problem is, they are still selling like mad, so why should they change?  We are all part of the problem not the solution.  Laying down another $20,000 for a new H.D. isn't going to make them think any differently.  Filling out your H.D. survey 10 days after you bought your bike isn't the answer either...  Being in my late 30's I had a hard time finding a style and look I wanted.  I don't believe they build a bike for anybody under 40 and if the Vrod and Buell were their attempts, they better go back to the drawing board.  I had a 25 year old guy ask me what the best looking Harley was because he said "I can't find one I like".  What a shock!  This company his little foresight as to what their new customers want.  The custom bike building world is taking a bite out of their ass and now there is Victory building a competitive product with more features for similar money.  Wait till someone builds a nice bagger...  Like most as a kid I started on metric dirt bikes and progressed to crotch rockets, what else was there?  Now I'm concerned about where my hard earned dollar goes especially in a country that's sucking harder than ever and I can't make enough to keep up with the vacuum!  So I bought a Honda cruiser, rode it for a year, had no problems and decided to see what all the hype was about and since have bought 2 new H.D.'s.  I had quality problems with both and have been left dead on the side of the road with 1000 miles on it.  I've encountered some of the worst customer service in my life from dealers and the company itself.  What does this say?  Says next time I buy a new bike I'm looking elsewhere.  IMO they sell more bikes on reputation than any other sole reason!  Other than that, I love my bike! Thanks SPIDERMAN, I just needed to vent. I do love my bikes, but they ( MOCO ) just need to step it up two or three notches.  I do most of all my work and find little things that get under my skin. Just one of those anal things.  Piss on it - lets go ride, if it brakes I'll fix it, if it doesnt  it leaves more money for beer and chrome.

The reasons mentioned above are the reasons why when looking for a touring bike I looked at a new Ultra and opted for a Goldwing..........still love my fatboy although it is parked much more than my GL1800............. [smiley=whip.gif]take that Willie G!

I am about to buy my first bike in over 20 years...I'm 54 years old....I'm a Baby Boomer.  We have driven the economy, culture/sub-culture in this country since the mid 60's, and will continue to do so until the tail end of us gets too old to buy chit like Harley Davidsons.  Let's face it, owning a Harley is buying into a sub-culture unlike any other bike based group of people, no matter what the brand.  I do think that's changing, as I see more people our age buying Stars, Victorys, etc.  They are offering a good, reliable product....in many ways superior when you drive it off the showroom floor.  But IT STILL AIN'T A HARLEY DAVIDSON!!!!!!  There's no 40 year old subculture out there for Victory owners.  I read about the problems with these bikes, but guess what else I'm reading between the lines?  You guys, for the most part, LOVE your bikes...you've got your heart and soul invested in them, plus a hell of a lot of your disposable (or not) income.  And, there is a commradarie (sp?), here that you don't find many places this day and time.  Yea, the bikes are behind the times a bit, and the company is sitting on their asses again and letting it happen because at the moment they aren't paying attention to what's going on....doesn't make it right, but it's reality.  My best comparison, at least in my mind, is what kinds of cars we own....I would LOVE to have a restored '57 Chevy, or some mid to late 60's muscle car, but I would NEVER have something like that as my primary means of transportation...that's why I own a Subaru Outback....I haven't got to worry about it....but, I also can't do a damn thing to it either, unlike a Harley, 57 Chevy, blah, blah, to make it MINE.  There's not a Subaru owner's group out there, or a Ford F-150 owner's group....there are old car groups out there...and they have "rallys"...guess what...most of them are also baby boomers.  Six months ago, I did not have the extra income to buy an SE Ultra Glide...I looked at Victory's, BMW's, Gold Wings, Stars....all great bikes....but guess what guys?  They ain't Harleys, no matter how hard they try to copy.  More reliable?  Probably so.  I'm buying into the Harley thing BECAUSE of guys like you...I'll have something in common with you, even if it's just the bike, and odds are there will be more.  If the bike sucks big ones, and strands me on the side of the road....then I'll make the choice of what to do with it...but I'll probably just fix it and keep on ridin' for as long as I'm able.  The MOCO needs to wake up and smell the coffee, yes.  I agree with that in a big way...meanwhile, I'll still have a big 'ol chit eating grin on my face when I go pick up my bike next month, and if something happens to it, I know you guys will at least be moral support, and probably go out of your way to help me get my problems resolved....that's why I'm buying a Harley!!  My dime's worth.....

tc,

youd be surprised about the number of places like this site on the internet if you buy a product chances are theres a forum for it out there somewhere, the differece is how truly passionate the members are.  other sites may even coordinate site gatherings but will people come from far and wide to attend? not sure on the number of states represented for cripple creek but we have at least 20 for maggie valley this fall
