Vance and Hines Monster Round sound level
« on: April 03, 2011, 12:44:23 AM »

I recently installed Vance and Hines Power Duals\Monster Rounds on my 09 FLHTCUSE4 and they are very loud. I researched then extensively before I purchased them, listened to several bikes that had installed the same setup and they sounded great, not too loud, deep throatly sound.  However they are loud on my bike.  Anyone know of a way to quiet them down?

i think most products made from V&H are way too loud for me.  They might offer a quieter baffle that you might ask for.. If not, I bet you will be changing those out. Lots of choices out there too to pick from.  I hate to admit it.  But at 54,  i went with a quiet pipe.  Bub 7 Stealth and I happen to love em. I can ride all day and no noise out of me. :2vrolijk_21:

I looked at a set of Vance and Hines Monstor Rounds last weekend at AZ Bike Week.  They had em on a '11SESG and it sounded great.  Once I got on the bike and took it up to 2K RPM It was still too loud.  I am going with Supertrapp Fatshots on my 07 FLHTCUSE2 this weekend, with 8 disks and end caps.  Hopefully this will be quieter.  Well anything is quieter than the CFR's I have on now!  I will post my results after the weekend maybe the Bub Stealth is the way to go

I've got the Monster Ovals...I know not quite the same...but....they are stealthy enough to get outa the neighborhood for an early ride, but put out some noise when I twist it a bit further.

Don't know Guys about this quiet trend here...

First of all age, I am leaning on 60...  My feeling is LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES... There is no blind spot, they can feel me...  heh he...

I have had the V&H Power Duals, on my last three bikes, a 96, a 103, and now on my 110 CVO SESG...  But I have Ordered BIG BLUE, the 2011.5 Ultra CVO...
I am thinking Dresser Duals, especially on two reports that they are LOUDER...  Then don't know, might try and remove the baffles from the stock 4" pipes, or go the Monster Ovals or something...

Love the loud!!  keeps me safe...

Cowboy.....

Hey Kcoop!!! Let me know when you ready to get rid of those monster rounds. I'll make you a good offer and provide a great home in Cali for them.

Put your stock mufflers back on and get some 1.75" baffles from Fullsac. Louder than stock but not obnoxious at all. Just a nice sound at road speeds. I love mine. I am one of those that is tired of the loud ones also. Getting deaf from years of it and it is also very fatiguing on long hauls.

I thought the Monster Rounds and Monster Ovals were supposed to sound the same?

In my continuous search for my next exhaust, I was considering these- the fact you think they are too loud makes me want them...I'm looking for some more sound. I was under the impression they might be too quiet for me.

If you "really" want loud then go with the Vance and Hines High Output Slip-ons. They are 4" diameter and are absolutely free flowing.

They look like the monster rounds but they are definitely much louder. Same price too. Plus if you end up thinking they are too loud, like me, they sell quite baffle iserts for $29 each. Easy to install.

I have the Monster Ovals and think the sound levels are perfect. Can sneak in and out of the neighborhood in the wee hours and get the sound when you crank on it even a little bit. Also a decent power pick up on the bottom end.

I would, but I think the baffles are too big, and they would hurt low end performance.

I had V&H Power Duals and Monster Rounds on my previous FLTRU and they sounded great. Mellow and deep without being overbearing under load or WOT. When I bought my SERGU a few weeks ago, I had the headers and pipes moved over to the new bike. Unfortunately, the sound is quite different on the 110 motor. It's quite a bit louder, but not in a pleasant way... it's just LOUD. There's also quite a bit of popping and backfiring on decel above 2k.

I wish there was a way to bring back the mellow tone these pipes had on my last bike. At this point, I'm seriously thinking of putting the stock mufflers back on and running them with the Power Duals. Since the cats are gone, it should be somewhat louder than stock but nowhere near the levels they are now.

If anyone is interested in my V&H Monster Rounds, they may be available in a few weeks.

Did you sell them or keep them?
