SERG seat service bulletin
« on: April 12, 2011, 10:38:56 PM »

I found a Service Bulletin allowing for seat replacements on our 09 SERG bikes on this site some time ago.  The bulletin allowed for a replacement seat to be installed if there was still a gap after installing a couple of support legs on the bottom of our original seats.  I printed this bulletin off and took it to my dealer months ago but they have conveniently lost it.  They did install the supports but I still have the gap.  They say they can not find any bulletin regarding our bikes and the seat.  Does anyone know where to find this bulletin.  I searched this site but can not find a copy of that bulletin.  I would appreciate any help you guys may be able to provide. Thanks

Had mine replaced in early '09.  Dealer said no.  I took pictures, called customer service and asked to e mail the photos.  This is a well known problem so if you call CS, they should help you.

For what it's worth (song),  the SERG seat is still cheap vinyl, slippery and very hot in the summer.  I went with a Corbin but there are many choices.  See here:  SERG AND CVO: VERY GOOD TO ME! NEXT?  Reply numbers 149 et seq. have pics of the Corbin.  Much better ride.  BSR loves it and locks on.

BSR locks on?  Hmmm, sounds like a Corbin may become seat of choice.

;)  I guess that means the BSR can take naps and not worry about falling off.

:huepfenlol2:  Okay.  I believe I may have been slightly misquoted.  Thank you Jerry.   :huepfenlol2:  Yes I have been known to change BSR's.  That is the privilege of being single.  Of course the more I think about it, maybe Jerry has a great idea!  Captive BSR's.   :nixweiss:

After the third seat i gave up , the stock seat is stored and the new one ( HD-signature modified with stiffer foam and real leather) is doing the job very good .

Thanks for the help.  The dealer ordered the new seat and it was installed today.  It looks and fits much better than the previous one.

My warranty is out in mid July this summer.  I've had my seat gap from the get go and have made "push forward" rear seat stainless mounting tabs, but nothing really fixed it.

I called MOCO in 12 of '09 about the seat and they said they may have a fix soon.  That of course was the frame rails.  I had the rails put in and then eventually another new seat.  The second seat was a POS without any padding under the front end at all, just very poorly assembled.

I called a couple weeks ago and am now waiting for my '11 SESG seat to come in.  I know that guys have had "some" luck with the latest revision of the '09 SERG seat, but I'm not going to take another chance.

My new seat should be here next week.

DAW, this is not an issue that just cropped up.  Have you had previous seat replacements that were not good and have you called MOCO about it?  If so, you have some paper trail and it should be considered as a pre-existing issue and not be dropped just because you're two weeks over your two year anniverary date.

Are you the original owner?  I've had mine going on two years this mid July.  I've complained about the seat from about the second week I had the bike.  Because of buying at the end of a model year, I already knew through the forum of the seat gap issues and was expecting a problem.

I had the service writer put verbiage on the work order about my complaint whether or not they could do anything.  I basically lived with it with my new home made 1" forward rear mounting tab until I saw the new bulletin you're referring to.  I had to take a copy into my dealership to get them on board with the frame rails and left a copy there with my work order.  When installed the old seat was not much better and the seat still had a gap.  That same day they ordered another new seat for me and it too was not good, but it was all they were authorized to do.

I would really give the MOCO a call on their service line and start a complaint number, in or out of warranty, just do it now regardless.  Take a copy from the upper post of the bulletin back into your dealership and say hey, this was still gapping and you were supposed to order a replacement and this "was" within my warranty period.

Technically now that your bike is over the 2 year mark, you do have more work to do to keep this active and ongoing.

Good luck with your seat...
