Glad it worked out. Sounds reasonable considering the way they put these things together. One more item for the list too check for anybody getting a new bike.  :drink:

They stood behind their work, that's all that you can reasonably ask for.  Glad to hear that it's back together.

Several here have had the oil cooler adapter leak.  Too bad it couldn't have leaked while at the shop after starting.
Happy it worked out for you.

Well I got word from the dealer. From what I am told, the oil cooler adapter is a ring between the oil filter mount and the oil filter. He says that the adapter ring has a lock nut holding it in place and it must have not been fully tightened, causing it to loosen when the tech removed the filter. He said they pulled it apart, replaced the seal, re torqued everthing and I am good to go. Needless to say, they are cleaning the bike top to bottom and redelivering it back to me. Sound reasonable? If it is fixed, I am happy.

This is not a new problem, it's been around since Harley went to the sandwich style oil cooler adapter plate.  You would hope that over the course of 5 years now that the dealerships would all know to check this during a filter change, but since we keep hearing reports of the same thing, it would appear that many shops still don't understand.  At least they told you the truth and didn't try to BS you, so kudo's to your shop.

Sounds like they are doing the right thing. Thats a great looking bike! If they can't perform a simple oil and filter change, makes me wonder "if" and "how well" they did the rest of your 1k service... I think I would do like others in your area and go to Metal Dragon.

Since you say 65 miles away and I am assuming south, I can figure out the dealer.  If so, had a friend lose some teeth on his 2011 RoadGlide Ultra (~1200 miles on bike) and he brought it to that dealership for warranty replacement.  They had the bike all week.  He went there Friday afternoon to pick it up and they were just finishing it up.  Came back from the test ride and the bike was puking oil from the primary.  He had to go back on Saturday to pick it up since the tech cut the trans shaft seal when installing the inner primary.  Bike is fine now, but dealer work always seems to take 2-3 times to get the simplest job right.  That being said, all of us in the Bay Area (and a lot of us outside the Bay Area) go to Metal Dragon in Hayward, which is Jim's (HD-Dude) shop.  Great work, great prices, and things are done right!

Took two bikes to Jim today, for the 10k services and I have a lot further to travel to get there.  But it's still worth the trip to get it done right the first time.   :2vrolijk_21:

When I did the 1k service on my CUSE-BLK, I retorqued my cooler adapter.  I installed one of these coolers on an older dyna and noticed the way it was designed that it would probably loosen up a bit after a few heat cycles.  Indeed, my new CVO turned about a 1/4 of a turn before I hit torque spec.  It uses a really thick gasket and is held by only the center bolt.

Just an idea, but if you find the bolt is lose can you take it out and apply lock-tite to hold it in place.  :nixweiss:

Guess it is time to let the name of the dealer out of the bag. I do this because I am happy with the outcome. I called the dealer and got the service manager on a Sunday. He sent a truck that night and picked the bike up. Did all repairs on Monday, including buffing some sections that I was not totally happy with. Cleaned all the oil that had sprayed on the bike, even warrantied my temp dip stick that wasn't working properly (purchased somewhere else). All that and delivered the bike back the very next day (Monday). I really can't ask for more, never denied what happened, never pointed the finger somewhere else. Basically told me "all I can do is say we F'd up and I am sorry". Eagles Nest HD in Lathrop, in my opinion they did a good job.....even if it took two trips.

Moral of the story, this is the first time the dealer has done an oil change for me, sorry but also the last.

Glad they "made it right" for ya. Shouldn't of happened but we've heard lots of stories where the customer was not so satisfied. Roger on the doing your own fluid changes.
