my personal opinion: you can never have enough hp and torque.

It's like sailing: you should never be satisfied before you got the best speed the weather can provide you  ;)

Try all you can, it's gonna be hard to have both the best looking bike and the fastest one.  So, choose a side, I say!

If you have to explain, they won't understand!!!
And, yes it is a "guy thing"!
I had these same discussions with the wife when I had a stock car, we could never agree on the limits of "stock". The wallet ruled that discussion as well as todays about the bikes. We have his and hers, I could use more, she's completely happy with what came as stock. Both Screamin' Eagle Springers.

Well, I don't have my CVO yet. I did buy it because I could and it is the biggest baddest Harley off the line. Now in the imortal words of Tim Taylor "AOHH AOHH AOHH MORE POWER" it will not take me long tinker with the power aspects of that 110 motor......

When you find the starting point you will discover that finding a stopping point is even harder...

Too much power?  That's like saying you have too much money, or your having too much fun!  Never have enough of either!

My motto - CVO riding on a curvy road - priceless.

The new 110" kit Harley has shouldn't void your warranty.  It is cams, HD tuner, and higher compression pistons.  They claim up to 125HP with a good 2into1 exhaust.
I believe the parts are around $1500-1600 bucks and a decent dealer should be able to install for $800-$1000.  Timm's in Anderson SC has done a bunch of them and everyone has been happy with result's.  They tell me there is no HD warranty issue.

Who is "They"?  People can tell you anything they want, and other people can hear only what they want to hear, but when it comes to legal documents like a product warranty I think I'd prefer having it in writing from the people backing the warranty (Harley-Davidson Motor Company).  Not verbal BS from a dealer, or comments from a guy who claims his dealer took care of him, but a real legally enforceable document.

Anyway, if warranty is the most pressing issue to someone, I seriously doubt they would be the type to immediately start modifying their engines.  For those who just can't leave well enough alone and want to do mods immediately, I'd suggest they get those "warranty" statements in writing and signed by an officer of the dealership.  They can't make Harley-Davidson responsible or modify Harley's warranty, but they can take on that responsibility themselves if they want to.  I have a feeling that very few dealers will be willing to do that, however.

BTW, you do see in the verbage for that kit that it is for off road use only, right?  That means it is illegal for street use, doesn't meet Federal standards, and like the other "Racing Use Only" stuff from Harley it doesn't necessarily come with any express warranty at all.  I'm not saying people shouldn't do this, I'm just saying they shouldn't assume they won't have warranty problems later.  Get it in writing, or assume the worst.

I hear you grc.  But when you look at the bang for your buck out of that 110" kit and the fact that the parts are actually "Harley" parts and there is a better chance than not that you can still have warranty related issues addressed, I think it's a good deal. Almost everyone spends 2G on the pipes, intake, and Power commander or whatever other tuner they go with to pick up a whopping 10hp on these engines and there is some question as to what that does to your warranty, but I've never had a problem.  My 110" has been torn apart 3 times under warranty and then finally replaced totally.  I have almost 20,000 miles on this last engine with no problems, which is why I havent done the kit..... yet, but I think I will.

As far as what an officer of a delaership can do for you, I'm not sure what that means. I'm about as high as you can go in a Ford/Lincoln Dealership, without actually owning the place, and I could sign whatever you want. Won't help you when you are broken down 3,000 miles from my store and the local dealer where you are says he won't give you warranty. Might help you if I turn you down for warranty and you decide to try and take me to court.

A manufacturer is going to have a hard time denying you warranty repair on your chrome peeling or ABS not working because you put a supercharger on your engine or you put suntan oil in your crankcase because there was no "SYN 3" available.

I guess the biggest concern on doing mods on most of these CVO's is that they are more often than not a touring machine, and if you use the bike for just that, being broken down 2 days from home with or without warranty sucks, no matter how you look at it. I guess I just look at the premium that we paid to have these machines(half of it is cosmetic and half is performance) the performance side is pretty weak, if you ask me. I've had 8 Ultra's now and the last two have been CVO's. I think until you can get those things up over 100 HP, all you really have is a nice paint job and some extra chrome you didn't have to buy after you bought the bike.

My bike was as powerful as I wanted as stock. However I wanted more noise, so I changed the exhaust system and as a bonus gained some HP and Torque. I do not race with my bike , is not a show bike. I just cruise and enjoy the breeze in my ....helmet!!!!! :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

I think Jerry is correct about the warranty and the dealers taking some onto their shoulders. We have several dealers in the area and they are vastly different when it comes to engine mods. Smokey Mountain builds my motors and they say " we will take care of you". I do not have anything in writing so I know I am taking some risks and the cozy relationship  could break down at any moment.

If you are not a risk taker sell your bikes. Think of the irony of risking your life but scared to death to loose some money? :huepfenlol2:

After the $1,260, there's the additional cost of exhaust and high flow air cleaner.  Those dyno numbers can be achieved for much less $$ :2vrolijk_21:
