Riding on the street for 28 years and extremely fortunate to have kept the foot boards right side up. Hope I can one day match my Dad's track record of 50+ with no accident.

Thankful!!

Ive been riding for 40+ years - and have been down once.  In 2004 - I hit a deer with the cruise control set on 80mph on I 90 in Minnesota, just east of the South Dakota border.  Rather - the deer hit me - it ran right into my front wheel from my right side.  I tumbled 200 feet in the median of the highway.  Seperated shoulder, broken wrist, broken fingers, cracked sternum, bruised lungs...  But never hit my head once, which is fortunate due to the fact that I was not wearing a helmet...  Was riding a 2004 O/B SEEG that was about 3 months old.  Of course, it was toast...  But I had another one within a week!   :2vrolijk_21:

Riding since I was 5, raced motocross on and off for 20years, have taken more than a few soil samples and even an occasional ambulance ride... but on the street so far I have been lucky.

Started at 8 or 9 yrs old, 47 now. Down numerous times off road. Once on a street bike of road, but knock on wood never on the street. Hope and pray I can keep it that way.

Been riding 40 years off and on and down twice, both times two up.
The first time was on Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach. We were cruising on my 98 RG at about 30 mph in the left lane when a SUV took my lane to make a left hand turn. I had the choice of hitting her or going down, so I went down (dirt bike style). The crash bars took most of the initial hit as we slid into the center median. The bike took out the sign posts but the curb broke five ribs in my back and we both had a lot of road rash. The investigating officer that came to the hospital when I was still secured to the back board said "I should have written that bitch up for attempted murder"...it looked bad. I only caught a glimpse of her sleeve as she said it...a motorcycle cop !! I spent a two months in a recliner and another month after that before the meat grew back enough to wear clothes for work.
The second time we got rear ended on the Ohio Turnpike on the 00 SERG coming home from our cross country trip last year. I was coming to a stop because of a traffic accident and about to put my foot down when we got hit by a SUV going 60 mph. The only thing that saved our lives was the Bushtec trailer we were pulling took the hit and I don't really remember much after that. We both were in a world of hurt after that one but nothing was broken. The SUV driver in the report said, "she didn't understand why everyone was stopping". Her SUV had to be towed away and my bike stayed in Ohio for four months getting fixed.
We are going cross country again in a couple weeks, hope to see some of you soon.

Been riding since I was 13 in '69.

Down in the dirt numerous times (when I was younger  :P )

Pulled off of Blue Ridge Parkway in '82 to check something on the bike, hit wet grass and tossed the V50 Moto Guzzi.  Came up laughing, just a broken turn signal stem.

0 speed drops a couple of times, no damage except to my ego.

1st: 1972 test riding a Kawasaki, spun the tire in some dirt/sand as I was leaving the dealer. Went sideways and right out from under me. Motorcycle was trashed,    not a scratch on me.
2nd: 1973 Crashed a Kaw. 500 shook the front end with a high speed wobble at 70 mph on a fast 4 lane curve, I could not hold on and hit a guard rail at 50 with my helmet. Should not have lived. Cops chasing me didn't think I should've either, I was told they got down and tried to smell alcohol on my breath, cause there was a 6 pack that had been strapped to the sissy bar/seat. I hadn't been drinking, yet.....
3rd: 1985 doing a wheelie with a chopped yamaha 650 with a bigger girl on the back and she went back against the sissy bar making the wheelie really high and then over backwards. She was drunk and I was showing the boys how fast my rice burner was.....
4th: 1994 crashed my new 1992 FXR by laying down and sliding under an 18 wheeler trailer that had pulled right out in front of me, bike was damaged but rode off with it. Tore up my clothes and had a rash on my hand and hip.
5th: 2004 Totalled the FXR  when a dog ran out from behind parked car, all I saw was a blur and then I was flying, I went off the to the side and the truck behind me missed me but smashed my scooter... I was on my way to visit my wife in the hospital, still got there, she had to come down to see me in intensive care..... Again I was very lucky, took me 3 years to buy my next bike, but I am back in the saddle and again, I ride like they are trying to kill me! Even so when u ride nearly every day, odds have a way adding up.....

44 now.... been riding since I was 19 (on the street)

Rear ended once that sent me down on my GSXR-750.... subsequently almost run over by surrounding traffic.... made for a really bad commute to work.

Laid my Fatboy down on the freeway (again, in traffic)

Nothing since (knock on wood)

How "long" someone has been riding is immaterial....it's how many MILES you have ridden that counts.  My riding period began in the 60s but had a hiatus when I was overseas and then when I lived in big snow country.  My mileage is:
65 Suzuki - 3000
68 BSA = 4000
71 Honda = 14000
2001 Kaw = 45000
2005 Kaw - 56000
2008 Harley = 46000
1996 Harley = 6000

1 dog on the BSA (mild road rash)
1 down on the BSA in rain (ditto)
1 parking lot down on Kaw (skin burn on pipes)
1 ditch run on 2nd Kaw (no injury)

Hit a deer on I-81 but didn't go down and bike not damaged....ABS stopped her perfectly straight (with the wife all over my back), hit the deer about 5 mph...deer was stock still at that moment.

Actually might have been more like 6000....then the rod bearing disintegrated coming across Matagorda Bay bridge in Texas.  Sure was ugly when I pulled the drain plug :>(  ....took it to the Honda shop and traded.
