That's what I'm talking about.  It used to be on a rare occassion, now it's happening weekly.

The CHP that was arrested on burglery for trying to shoplift the X-box.......tonights news said the Target store has him on video for four previous shop liftings that he did get out of the parking lot with.  He's been charged with four charges of burglery.  Incredable......the guy is making $120k a year and he's shoplifting with his son.

Sad to say this is a direct reflection on society today.

When those of us over 50 grew up we were held accountable for our actions... there were no time outs when we misbehaved... We got "whippin's" from any adult that saw us misbehaving. The young adults of today haven't been held to the same standards.... when they "mess up" they get "spoken to/timed out" rather then being held accountable. My Mom is 88 years old and still to this day she has no problem in telling me... "I bought you into this world I'll take you out" and even though I know physically she probably can't do it I do know mentally she would try it if needed (by any means necessary).

The standards to be an LEO have been significantly lowered in the last 20/30 years and due to that we are seeing the kind of things that JC mentions. Case in point 20/30 years ago the Virginia State Police (VSP) wouldn't think about hiring someone that admitted they smoked marijuana however currently they will accept someone that admits they have smoked marijuana and if I'm not mistaken they may also take you if you admit to cocaine use in the past as long as it hasn't been recently (don't remember the exact time limit). The moral standards are lower to become an LEO and for that reason we are seeing things like JC mentioned.... sad as it is... it is what it is. :(

I have to disagree. I have seen much higher entry level requirements put in place since I started in the profession in 1997. Most local, county, state, and Federal agencies now require a minimum of 60 hours of college credit (or more), military with an honorable discharge, or a combination of both. In addition, the background checks are much more involved to include personal interviews with past teachers, neighbors, and friends. I know that any "Convictions" for felonies or serious misdemeanors will automatically exclude a candidate from consideration. I remember being asked about marijuana use when I was being hired and when I answered "Never" they looked at me funny and thought I was being dishonest. It was the truth and I was still offered the job after passing the polygraph and psychological exams. IMO it wouldn't be responsible for any Law Enforcement to disqualify an applicant for something our own President said he had experimented with. I think Clinton admitted the same thing when he was in office.

higher entry level requirements background checks college credits or any combination of those listed still has nothing to with morals or a lack of  which i think what dood is trying to say.most of these guys for any action since childhood there has never been any real consequences for there actions. when i was child i had a genuine fear of authority figures (respect). now there is none! there were consequences for actions and they were physical. if parnets do it now the boys in blue are knocking on the front door. our own president may have called it experimenting, what he actually should have been calling it was illegal.IMO if you do not have enough self discpline to refram from illegal activites you should be disqualified.you have already demostrated you do not have any self discpline. i too can truthfully say NEVER. we may be the only two.stay safe and thanks you for hard work. not everyone has the strength to be discplined. thats o.k. just do not need those folks having any authority of any kind.

What I have observed in the previous 40 years is that the law enforcement motto has evolved from "To protect and Serve",to "To Protect and Serve..each other"  Sadly, their first concern is not the general public, but covering for each other.  I have many close friends in  law enforcement, both active and retired, and they will be the first to tell you - off the record - that it is all about them, not the public they are hired to protect.

I think that's the blue code Bill.

In the past 24 hours.....a police arrested in San Diego for rape, an officer in the bay area being investigated....he's on a video camera removing a duffle bag (full of who knows what) from a suspect home but it was never booked into evidence and the suspect was found "not guilty", the director of the Contra Costa County narcotics task force is charged with running a brothel in that county, raiding the other massage parlors to illiminate the competition and accused of obtaining drugs from other busts and illegally reselling them.

It's definately on the increase.....big time!  And some of them are veterans with years of service that have moved up the chain of command.

You're right JC, it is the "Code", but in years past it was for covering minor indiscretions.  Now it seems that the "Code" covers anything from drugs to murder.  I truly believe in our law enforcement, but they need to step up and purge their ranks, and "out" the criminals that are operating under the cover of law.
