CVO console with CB connection?
« on: May 28, 2011, 06:14:33 PM »

I would like to install a CB on my 2010 SESG, with a CB mike connection in my existing CVO Console.

Does anyone on this board modify the existing CVO console, adding a CB mike mount?

Thanks in advance for your help.

My CB is integrated with my CVO, antenna and mike is on the headset with PTT on the left handlebar, HD system module for factory stereo. .???? Ar you talking aftermarket? for a CB?  Mmm My wife has a tank bag on her soft tail with communication equipment, IPod and a easy removed plug under the seat. The PTT in on left handle held securely running wires under tank to connector, after market. It works but she dos not have a radio so she had no choice. For a CB I go with factory through your stereo, clean connection. Good luck.

If I go with the HD CB module, I would like to keep my CVO console.

I do not like the HD option with the plug-in set up just above the seat on the tank.

I was hoping there might someone on this board that modifies the existing console, adding a mike plug-in.  I don't know if that is possible, but I thought I would find out here.

I got another idea for you :) there is a conversation about using blue tooth on this site in communication and electronics area. There is a new dogle from J&M that connects to the Harley system and allows you to access all your stereo functions with out wires including CB functions. Check it out, it is pricy but will not modified your bike. I hope it helps  :)

Take a look at the thread below; the rider headset connector is installed the left side mid-frame air deflector--very slick installation.  Your other alternative is to use the mounting method included in the Boom Audio kit, p/n 77108-09A which puts the connector just forward of the seat, on the gas tank as you note in your original post.

Carl,

Thanks a bunch buddy.  That is an awesome idea.  It shows that a solution can be quite simple.  I did not want to install it just forward of the seat.  I think that installation looks awful.

Thanks for taking the time to point out the other topic here in CVO Harley.  I really appreciate it.

Ken,

You're very welcome; good luck with your installation.  I spent the $70 for the air deflectors just to be able to mount the headset connector in the left one.  Frankly, having the connector mounted close to the seat nose on the gas tank was not a significant cosmetic issue for me, nor is the stalk on the left side interior to the saddlebag for the passenger connector and PTT/vol. switch even though I use a solo seat/no passenger pillion and no tour pak mounted 95% of the time.  But my perspective was heavily influenced by the alternatives (different tank console to accommodate the rider headset connector and a permanently mounted tour pak for the passenger headset connector and PTT/vol. switch) which were not going to work for me.

Incidentally, I rode 1500 miles to and from Rolling Thunder with a group and used the newly relocated headset connector all the way, and it worked just fine--no problems.  I'm glad I have the J&M Elite series headset/mic so I didn't have to disconnect the cord from the connector (J&M uses two cord segments) each time I got off the bike.

Good luck with your installation.

Carl,

I use a half-shell helmet most of the time.  From what I've heard from friends, the J&M headsets are very good quality.  I just don't know if it will work with a half-shell.  That will take further research.

I didn't make Rolling Thunder this year.  It is one my favorite annual rides.  I come up from Richmond which is about a 110 mile ride.

Thanks again.

For a half helmet I believe you have to install the speakers in the zip on neck curtain or us a head phone setup. :nixweiss:
