Well let's see;

1. 2010's were the last true Custom Vehicle Operation hand assembled bikes. The separate CVO Department was closed down. Now they have been incorporated into the normal production line. So they are CVO's in name only and due to all of the extras the pricing remains at a premium.

The thinking by The motor Company as I understand it is that the overall Quality Control and processes on the line are able to produce high quality results for all bikes. So the "saves" are in separate labor cost and processes.

The CVO Pricing wiil continue to go up though.

2. In 2010 and earlier the hand assembly included custom painting and graphics. Consider the striping on the 2011's which is high quality semi production work with the 2010 custom hand applied real gold leaf graphics and flames.

The motors and accessories are essentially the same with of course execptions for the 2011 Street Glide lowers.

The "new tank" and console on the 2011's is a parts saving move. Now the tanks and gas caps fit more of the entire touring and other FL lines.

There are other things but going forward, I think the question we will be asking ourselves when we are evaluating the new models is; What features and functions are on the base model for what price and what are the "add ons" on the CVO model we are interested in buying and is there value for me in the incremental price.

If the answer is yes then buy it and enjoy it, it's your decision.

Hi,
Thats a great detailed response, Thanks.
I have been hankering after a CVO particularly during 3 months laid up after my spine op last summer when I had looooadsa time to think about anything and everything. I have just about been throught the Harley range down the years, Sportster (my wife's bike but hey it was good to play on once in a while), one dyna (fatbob 2008), one softail (Deuce 2001) two Roadkings (both roadking customs 2006/2006) and a 2010 Streetglide.....currently I am without a Harley having sold the last one I owned several months ago to fund a home building project. Dont know why I mentioned all that but I am now thinking of buying another Streetglide and find it difficult justifying the purchase price of a CVO,......but I like (and have found an unregistered) the blue 2010 but really like the Autumn Haze 2011, hence my queery of difference as the price in UK here is about £3k apart. I also wonder if there is much to benefit from a riding perspective with the 19" wheel?
I guess my dilemma is £18k for a stocker £23k for a 2010 CVO or £26k for the 2011 CVO......getting to my age I'm thinking is this the LAST one I buy, (well thats how I will have to explain it to her that matters), and go for it......... :-\
Decisions, decisions ;D
Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to air my thoughts -
Cheers

The new tank and flush mount fuel filler cap and digital gauge , thus eliminating the worthless air temp gauge were primary in my decision. Also I liked the fact that the "flake" in the paint schemes was smaller. I am not a fan of big metalflake (glittery) paint personally. And then there is those new wheels (size ) they just really set that bike off in my opinion. I just thought the bike (2011) came with some amenities that really set it apart from the 2010's and all other FL's. There have certainly been some problems with these bikes as there always is , but all in all I am extremely pleased with mine and have never second guessed my decision.

Just my 2 cents worth. We took a tour of the York, PA plant in April of 2010 and they were building the CVO touring bikes along with all the other touring bikes. I personally saw one CVO Street Glide being built on the production line between regular street glides and ultra's. Not sure when they stopped hand building them.

The 2011 tour paks incorporate the bike's paint/graphics; the 2010's not so much.
