Twolane I know the reason your radio works is because your 06 radio is in an 05 cherry,  DAH!

That must have something to do with it Bubba.  Whatever the reason though I'm just glad it's worked well so far!

(Peace be unto the radio Gods.)

I just noticed yesterday that my LCD display is out!!  I'm not sure when it happened, but it is totally blank.  I played a CD, but didn't know what song was on- etc.  I'm going to check my service manual.  If I can't find anything out, I guess it's back to the dealer.   I hit a big bump in the road that made a kind of clank sound, and was wondering if somehow a wire might have come off the radio inside the fairing.

Also, I noticed a small amount of water, or steam inside the lower edges of the display after I washed it about a week or so ago.

If anyone has had similar experiences and any answers, I'd sure like to hear about it! :-/ -Steve

I couldn't find any answers in my service manual, so I called to dealer about my radio display going out.  I was told to bring the bike in for them to take out the radio and send it to the MOCO.  I was told that it would then take about two weeks for them to get me a new one.  At first I was told to make an appointment for next week for them to get to me.
I think this is poor service- both by the MOCO and by my dealer.  I feel on a new SE Ultra, or any Ultra for that matter, the shop should have spare radios to swap out for their customers.
I believe that after this experience, I will purchase the extended warranty plan because with a bike with so many "extras" I am pretty sure something else will break given time.
The riding season has really just got underway where I live, and I won't have a radio for probably three weeks.  I'm glad I didn't activate my three month trial XM subscription!  -Steve

I have been told by several HD dealerships that installing the 06 Harman Kardon radio in my 05 FLHTI was not possible yet due to the difference in wiring.  The 05 is wired for the RadioSound system and there is no adapter made yet.  I want to purchase a radio for my EG Standard but would prefer to buy the latest technoligy.  Whats your secret?

Rick,
Check out this thread - 06 Advanced Audio Retrofit in 05 Bike. This should give you the information you need to install that radio in a '05 scooter.

It's actually a simple swap Rick (if you can get the radio).  Direct connect throughout.  For the life of me I still don't have a clue why Harley is not making a retrofit package available because it is certainly a do-able and simple enough task.

The thread that Fired00d pointed to shows it being done on my bike.  On mine I've only used the HK radio and the XM kit.  Another user here has done a bit more.  Started as I did with the radio and XM package and then later moved on to add the CB package (and perhaps the intermcom too, but not sure of that) as well.

It's been in my bike for quite awhile now.  Covered several miles in all kinds of weather.  Worked fine (so far).

Thanks to Twolanerider and Fired00d

Twolanerider you put together quite a thread on installing the 06 radio in an 05 bike.  Very informative.

Good question.  Maybe it is due to what Bubba mentioned earlier in this thread where he said they are looking to change radios in '07 due to issues with the current one (such as those being discussed about the display in this thread).  Perhaps that's the reason they haven't done a retrofit kit yet.  That's about the only thing that I can come up with that makes sense, anyway. Yeah, but something not working right has never kept Harley Davidson from trying to sell it to us......

The software CD did not correct my problem. Dealer said he must remove the radio, get the serial number, then ask MOCO for a new radio.  All the while my bike sits at the dealer.  Grat, and I'm leaving for 1500mi trip......tomorrow.  DREBBIN

The Software instructions state: (under step Three) " DO NOT DO THIS UPDATE IF YOUR SCREEN IS BLANK! IT WILL NOT FIX IT!  see your local Dealer for Assistance  [smiley=drink.gif]

As you can see from my post on May 31st, my display went out.  It never came back on.  Yesterday (5/22) my dealer called and my new radio is in.  I'm too busy to get it installed until next week.  I think anyone with problems in this area should report it to this site so we can keep an eye on it.  The MoCo needs to make sure people buying their CVO bikes are getting a product that will last and be trouble free. -Steve
