i usually run my springer on Shell 100octane, but we dont have the racing fuel in Switzerland!  Glad 2 see you had a good trip. despite a lil Munich rain!

I use V-Power exclusively, Ice - Harleys run MUCH better on it.  Germany is the only country I know where you can get V-Power racing though, but it IS 100 Octane (normal V-Power is 98 Octane) so I'm puzzled by the Shell 100 Octane you get....

100 octane (V power) is only available in Switzerland with Shell, the standard 98 & 95 unleaded is also obtainable here with Shell as with all other Petrol Distributors.

No, if that's the case Shell in Switzerland is unique, Ice.  V-Power is 98 Octane, V-Power racing (as mentioned, only available in Germany) is 100 Octane, There are no other 98 or 100 Octane Shell variants anywhere else in Europe - so Switzerland is different.

I did not preload the trip...I looked at routes each morning and plugged in Tourist Information addresses for the towns we were riding to.  All I had finalized before we left was the towns and hotels we were staying in each night, we just rode and stopped along the way to see anything interesting....

In Switzerland we had the luxury of having a day totally planned by my wife's niece....she took her car and I followed...when we got to the curvy sections of the roads, I would ride ahead alone and have some fun.  I can PM our itinerary to you if you want.

napalm

Thanks Napalm,
Glad to see you had a good trip.  Sometimes just winging it is the best way to go.  Thanks for sharing your adventure.

We flew from Philadelphia to Frankfurt, Germany on June 28, landed at 6:30 AM and took a taxi to the Harley Davidson Factory, HD Dealership in Frankfurt to pick up our rental, an Eltra Glide Classic.

Headed to Wurzburg an hour away to spend our first night and attempt to recover from the time change of 6 hours....

Our airplane, an Airbus 330 Jumbo...

You must be a very rich man going by those aircraft seats, Napalm!  ;D

Looks like a great trip, well done!  How many miles/km did you average a day, as a matter of interest?

The scoot was a 2011 Electra Glide Classic built to European specs.  Had a 103 motor, GPS Mount & a Kilo Speedo.

The exhaust is definetly different than US, ports were much smaller.  I saw or heard almost NO loud exhaust bikes during our trip.  Asked one guy at a HD Dealership what's up, he said it is not allowed....

A major differnce in the Euro bikes I found out after the bike would not start on day three, would turn over....bike will not start unless the kick stand is up.  Nobody told me, thought we were stuck!  Noticed the odometer was flashing something....it was saying put the kickstand up stupid!!!

Some dealers add the lowers on rental bikes....I think this bike was a carry over from the now defunct HOG Fly & Ride Program....

Only if you try to do it in gear, Napalm. They start happily with the stand down, but if you put it in gear with the stand down, the motor will cut - or of course, if you try to start it in gear (even withe the clutch lever held in) with the stand down, it won't.

I may have had it in first gear with the clutch in when I tried to start it with the kick stand down....oh well got it started and off we went!!!
