The 2012 SG seat does not appear to have as much padding as the 2011 SG seat either.  Which I'm guessing translates into it will not be as comfortable.  Plus the 2011 has the ability to have a rider backrest.  Seems the only advantage the new 2012 seat has is the ability to convert to a solo seat.  :(

Guess that means I will be looking for a 2011 SG seat for my new bike when arrives next month.  Assuming the 2011's will fit the 2012's with those chrome strips on the fender.

Sometimes the amt. of padding doesn't directly equate to comfort.  Shape of the seat and type of padding actually mean more for long term comfort.  A horse saddle is a good example...shape is very important to all day comfort.  spyder

I fully agree a rider back rest is a must.

Swore I would never have on, they ruined the looks of the bike.  Then rode a bike 300 miles with one, and bought one the next day for my bike.  Both bikes have them now.

Yeh, I took a 2003 Softail Standard with a 240mm rear tire kit to Stugis and SATX multiple times all without a windshield and backrest then I got my SESG with a backrest and I was living large.  Not to mention the tunes and fairing-love it!

From first hand experience my 2010 CVO Street Glide seat was uncomfortable for me with that extra piece at the end of the seat.

I had to fix the famous seat gap issue and got them to switch out my seat and passenger back rest pad out for the 2011 CVO Street Glide seat. This seat was the most comfortable of all of them including my new 2012 CVO Street Glide except that like the 2010 seat it bottomed out on the ECM and other stuff under the seat.

This is something that the 2012 CVO seat doesn't do. It seems to float more and has some flex in it. But if you are long legged and sit to the rear of your seat that overlap piece on the passenger pad that you mentioned in one of your earlier posts pokes you in the rear.

I was thinking the same thing.

Also with the 2011's having amp problems that "MIGHT" be heat related it will be intersting to see if the 2012's amps start cutting in and out. There is a lot of heat in them bags on a hot day.

I was really looking over the 2012 SESG's at Sturgis last week, especially the lid speakers and amp.  I have no idea exactly how long the bike had been sitting outside with the stereo on, but the amp in the saddlebag lid was EXTREMELY hot, like too hot to touch hot.  I suppose going down the road with air running running over the lid might help reduce the heat some.

I wonder if any water leaks into the saddle bag...

Well, if you're leaving Calif. on a tour east, you're going to spend all day long in the saddle in the 90s and triple digits.  If your bags are packed for a tour (barely able to close them) and your stereo is on all day long, just like you are, there's going to be the same heat confined to a much smaller space (no ambient air at all).  That was one of my first thoughts when I heard they put an amp in the saddle bag.  :nixweiss:

HD will just come out with a line of touring motorclothes that are flame resistant for use in the left saddlebag on 2012 SESG's.  ;)

If the amp is getting that hot, and with no real way to cool it off, other than turning the stereo off, I think there will be issues with the amps giving up the ghost.

I don't mean to offend anyone that's getting a 2012 SESG, but I just think the speaker grills on the saddlebag lids looks cheesy.  On a dark colored bike, they might look OK.  Plus, they are in a very vulnerable place for a BSR getting on and off the bike.  I'm sure they sound good though.

I've been thinking the same thing... How many scuff marks have your bags suffered with BSR's getting on and off?  Problem will be when the grills get dented rather than a bag getting a simple scuff, which can be buffed out!  Time will tell, but I'm really not a big fan of the saddlebag speaker set up at this point.

I agree with all of the concerns-heat, leaks, looks etc. I am not by nature and age a big boom box kind of music guy.

I decided when I bought the 2012 CVO that there are enough other refinements visable and not visable that it was still a good deal.  If I have concerns or issues with the speakers I will buy and paint new lids for the bags. The lid speakers and the lowers will be wrapped up and saved for the next guy who owns the bike just like the stock mufflers are now.

Regards

Jerry

Just more 'stuff' that has to be replaced on these custom/expensive bikes.  OK for a bar hopper, but not for a serious rider. But, they're not trying to design it for everybody.  Copying the custom designers at the bike shows is OK to a point, but when the wheels get too big to handle and ride good or the sound system gets impractical for a serious touring bike, then, you've gone too far down the 'show' path.   spyder

These are "touring bikes" correct?  Two oversites-the hot amp and lack of riders backrest.  I live in San Antonio and we have had 100+ degree days for most of the summer and there is no way I would feel comfortable riding the 2012, although beautiful, not really functionable.  Oh, and the 2012's will still have that wheel weight issue flying off and damaging the fender-ouch!   :nixweiss:

you guys got it all wrong.... with this amp/speaker deal....  this is the first step in water cooling Harley tour bike..... the speaker is just a funnel for the water to cool the amp.....

I am not a fan of the saddlebag speakers either but I agree with Jerry, paint some new lids and replace the stock speaker lids and remove the amp for the next owner. Seems like an easy fix if you don't want the sound or are worried about them.
