Mike, how's the new seat doing?  I'm considering one for my bike.  I had the C&C solo on the 2010 SEUC (wish I hadn't let it go with the bike).  This time, I'm thinking about the rider backrest, as well.

Still good...but haven't done a 600 mile day in it yet....Should be just as good at the solo that you had on your '10

600 mile day?  Geez I'd rather do a 300 mile day in a couple chunks.  Stop for a beer and a burger, sit on a bench on a scenic overlook, have a smoke, have another beer, take a leak on a tree, then hit the road again.  I don't drive fast enough to do all that and make 600.  More power to ya' but I'm takin' it easy.

Never found anything better than the AirHawk mainly because you can move it around and adjust the inflation level.  It's like you're riding on a surface that totally conforms to everywhere you touch it, but better than gel since air can circulate inside the cover around the bladders it always keeps your keester ventilated.  No way for humidity to build up between you and the seat.  You can prolly find a local dealer that will let you try one for free.

Even if you get a custom gel or other high dollar seat the airhawk is a good addition for long rides.  If I'm going more than 50 miles I always take it in my saddlebag and throw it on later.

That's not good.  :nervous: Wonder what the P-Pad does for her?  :nixweiss: spyder

They've apparently solved that problem (numb 'nads) with this one:  http://www.bikercushion.com/AIRHAWK-R-Seat-Cushion-p/cruiser-r.htm   This was also the cheapest place I could find it.  I ordered one for Judi (BSR) 'cause her butt starts hurting on the stock seat.  If it works for her, I may get one as well.  There are two issues with the pillion versions, IMO.  One, they are basically a rectangle...the large pillion is 11" wide and 14" long.  The rear seat on the SERGU is 15" + wide, and about 11" long, measuring from the backrest to the rear of the seat.  Since this R version is shaped more like the actual seat surface, though a bit long, I decided to go with it rather than the pillion pad.  The extra length will just stick back under the TP, so shouldn't be an issue...hopefully.  So the passenger pillion versions aren't really a good fit on the Ultra type seat.  Two, I don't know if it will be possible to turn on the heated seat with this on and feel any effect, or if it's even a good idea to try.  :nixweiss:  If this thing works out for her, I may get another one for my part of the seat, and be sure to get this new R version...measuring the seat, it would be a perfect fit.

I don't care for the way this stuff looks on the bike...much the way I think the sheepskin covers look tacky (no offense to those who swear by them).  But, being able to toss it in the TP when the bike is parked will likely work for me, and you won't really see it when you're sitting on it, will 'ya?

I've just read too many negatives about the Gel things to take a chance on it, but everything I've read about the Airhawk has been positive.  A better seat is the ultimate solution, but when you've got two different butts sitting on the same seat, it's hard to know if any particular brand is going to work for both of you.  My butt likes Corbins, but I think my BSR would have issues, so this seems like a reasonable compromise. We'll see...

Sometimes I don't have the time and need to do the miles to get somewhere. I'm doing 270 miles down to Ocean City, MD in a few weeks which should be a decent test for the seat.

Danny Gray is the manufacturer with the "built-in" Airhawke pads. I have had two different HD Sundowners with Gel Pads installed in the frt and rear. Not sure why anyone would not like them but I have had a hundred people sit on the bikes then say "I don't feel any difference, seems a waste of money to me", well about a hundred miles in it is no longer a waste of money. I have asked people after this response and without fail they say that everything they ever heard was bad, but none of them had ever ridden on one. Definite reduction in vibration and they fit your butt better than simple foam. But for short rides, nothing different on that I agree. I now throw a Airhawk in the bag when we are making a long ride, they are better than foam, gel.. whatever as long as you don't try to use to much air. Loaned it to a friend who I thought understood how they worked, he brought it back looking like a puffer fish saying he didn't like it, to hard and didn't confirm. You must read instructions.

Got that right they work best at about 50% or less inflated.  You just inflate it a bit, sit on it and let the air out of the valve while you're weight is on it.  When You feel even support across the area you twist the valve closed.  Took me a little experimentation to get it just right.

Just visited the Roho Store online and sure as chit Danny Gray DOES have an airhawk seat!!!  Thanks for that info.  Interested to see how the circulation of air effect was preserved from the fabric one.  That's what helps it stay cool.  I will probably be getting one.  When I replace my bike that is.

Update on the new C&C seat....as nice at it looks and it's comfortable for a couple of hours, my butt was not happy on the ride down to Ocean City this weekend......on my last bike I did 3 times the miles in one day on my Corbin with no problems. As much as it kills me, I guess I will be ordering another Corbin over this winter. This time I hope they can build it right in less than 3 times!

Good luck.  Unless you're lucky enough to live out close to the Corbin factory, they've become a non-player for me.  Won't do any 'custom' stuff anymore for us on the other coast.  Hard to work with over the phone.....just not worth it.  Shame.   :-[  spyder

Hey if anyone using or getting an Airhawk is still following this thread:  They have a new one called the Cruiser-R.  It is built with a channel in the middle from front to back and it's designed to help keep your tailbone pressure free and your brass ones from going numb.

They will swap your old one for 10 bux and send you a new one, at least they are doing it for me.

Work through Jim (hd-dude/Metal Dragon).  He works with Corbin a good bit so they are not likely to mess around with him, plus he can give you a small discount, I think.  He'll make sure it's right.

It's a shame the C&C seat is not comfortable for the long haul, but you know a Corbin is.  Short of getting one of the AirHawk things (I got one for my wife, and I must say, it's nice...it's the new Cruiser R) to use on those occasions when you need to, there's not a whole lot of choice in the matter.

That was the plan..I got my last one from him also. Sent it back once through Jim and then sent it back directly to Corbin after speaking to someone in the Fla location. Didn't want to bother Jim again.

I bought a C&C seat with matching rider's and passenger's backrest.  I too have found I can do a couple of hours max before my butt numbs.  I wish that was not the case.  It is a well made and nice looking seat.  I think it need to be harder.

Soft foam feels good initially....but then.....doesn't give the long-term support.  spyder
