I am really liking the look of the volt and oil gauges being swapped with the tweeters. Riding in the dark tonight i think it would look much better lighting up and lining up with the speedo and rpm gauges. The tweeters look like they belong beside the radio unit too.

So does anyone know if the diameter of the holes are they same for the oil and volt gauges as the tweeters?

JULY 31, 2011......UPDATED: Yes it can be done. It took me about an hour. I Will post pics and details later. :worthless:

Yes it looks awesome. :2vrolijk_21:

Aren't the tweeters positioned for better sound from the factory.

You would think....but they swapped positions from the 2011 to the '12 so maybe the new postion is better?

I have always been told that for tweeters you need an unobstructed path for the best sound from them.  Since both the 2011 and 2012 locations offer this I would suspect they both sound exactly the same.  So the only real difference will be aesthetic.

With that being said, I like the looks of the 2012 locations better, for the same reason stated above.  The gauges just look better being together in a single line, IMO.  :)

Haven't been interested enough to go by a Harley store and look at new bikes for at least a couple years, so I don't know if they made any major changes to the fairings or not.  But if the inner is still like it used to be, the lower holes for the gauges are not angled toward the rider like the upper holes are.  If we were talking about sitting in a well designed room for audiophiles, rather than on a loud motorcycle, that difference in angle might be important for a true audiophile.  Somehow I don't think it's going to make a big difference on a Harley with the speakers sitting a foot apart.

Put the gauges where they are easiest to quickly scan.

That's a good one!    :2vrolijk_21:

(You're giving the MOCO way to much credit...  Besides, the MOCO switched the locations from the 11's to the 12's...)

I'm guessing its a cost thing.  Some wise cost accountant figured out they could finish the inner fairing install 30 seconds faster by having the gauges across them top and moving the tweeters down.  Or, they were able to save 20 cents on wiring by making the change.  Or both.  But I doubt it had anything to do with improving the sound, or rider experience.   :cucumber:

I didn't realize they changed positions from 2011 to 2012.  I have a 2010 with hogpod's.  Seems to me the upper position is theoretically better for sound quality but I kinda like the looks of the lower position.  Honestly, I wouldn't bother changing either though myself.  On my 2010 I can see all the gauges very clearly and the tweeters up high are closer to my ears and have no obstruction, not that I don't want a 2012!

In my case the passing light has to be loosened to get the fairing off without any grief.

Looks intimidating but once you get a good look and you start moving wires it is not that bad.
