Hunker down Mid Atlantic, and New England
« on: August 26, 2011, 07:04:23 AM »

Looks like an unwanted visitor is heading your way. Irene wants to party in the Mid Atlantic and New England areas this weekend. Hope she turns right and goes out to sea! Good luck to all in those areas and stay dry and safe.

I'm hoping she takes a right myself...

There's a 50-50 change we could get winds of 75-100 mph. Not looking forward to it.

We are right in the path of the eye :apple: :carrot: :jalapeno: :cucumber:

15.5" of rain expected on Saturday with 95mph winds

Bikes are on lifts
Boat is in garage
Car is in garage

Seas are expected to be 30feet....waves from the SSE

good thing for this area is that we face NE so a SSE wave will hit us at such an angle it will not be that bad on the ocean side

Got a few miles in before the chit hits the fan bike is back in the garage car is parked away from trees and street lamps.

Are you getting much rain/wind so far MikeyTee?  We've just started getting the rain-bands in the past couple of hours.  I know Brian is gonna be in for a blow.  100mph winds up to 100 miles from the eye will cover a lot of us.  Gonna be a long night.  Stay safe everyone.  spyder

Generator and other essential gear is all set up and ready to go.  I live in an area that is full of old softwood trees that cause power outages very often.  My wife works at the power company call center for NH, Mass and Ct.  She has been assigned 12 hours days for Saturday & Sunday.  Don't mind being alone it's just not riding that sucks.

Stay safe

The rain stopped here around 9pm. The wind is still about 25 mph. Looks like we missed any bad stuff. We had a thunderstorm this week with 60 mph winds, today was a joke compared to that. Hope you fair as well.

Wind gusts in Hatteras to 84kts and here at the house only to 43kts.

Rained since 6pm last night. Some of the rain bands dumped some water on  us. Water level behind the house was 2ft low before the storm. Right now it is only 18" down.

Highway 12 to Hatteras is still open. That road closes with only a hint of water :huepfenlol2:

Eye to make shore in Atlantic Beach this morning. It is only 90 miles off Hatteras and moving 14 kts.

WINDS HAVE DROPPED TO 90KTS

Wondering if some Wuss from Hollyweird is running the state of Maine. They declared emergency status up here before the storm hit the Carolinas. We usually don't get much more than the tail of the dog anyway. Probably enough wind to snap a few branches and screw up power but certainly not state of emergency status as it used to be when I was a resident here before moving to SoCal.

Anyway, all of you in the storms path, those well south of Cape Cod that are gonna get lambasted, you be safe heah ? Also NYC looks to get at the least high winds and some heavy rain and seas. Probably the river will flood lower Manhatten or something. I think after that though the storm will fizzle - - hey, I've been watching three different cable weather stations and they've predicted between them something like 20 different storm tracks; my guess is as good as any.

Whatever happens, be prepared and be safe everyone

We have had rain all night here in Norfolk, about 6 inches so far with total expected around 12 inches. Winds have gusted to 55 mph, expected to get up to 85 or so. We have not met the storm center though, it's due around 8pm (near high tide) , worry most about storm surge they say it may be 6 to 8 feet above normal. Low lying areas have a mandatory evacuation and we have had tornado warnings too.

Good luck, I have been keeping up with the storm on channel 259 Direct TV. It is now showing WAVY TV 10. Looks like you guys will have a lot more flooding than wind damage. I talked to Hogasm and they didn't loose power.
Hope all is back to normal by next weekend as we are heading that way. I have to get my What a Burger fix!
