Cruise Control Cancel
« on: August 30, 2011, 01:18:18 PM »

As of the other day I thought there were only 2 ways to cancel out the crusie control activation.
1. tap on the brake
2. hit the cruise control switch.

Well a friend of mine that just purchased a 2012 Street Glide informed me that he just rolls his throttle forward to cancel out the cruise.  Well I tried this on my FLHTCUSE4 and found that it also worked.  After informing one of my friends about this great bit of info.  He tried it on his FLHTCUSE5. But only to find out that his throttle will not rotate forward to deactivate the cruise.  Why is it that you can roll the throttle forward on a 09 and a 12,  but on the 2010 you can not roll the throttle forward any at all.  Must be some configuration somewhere that needs to be performed.  Any thoughts

ALL bikes with factory cruise control have had the roll off feature going back as far as I can remember.  The old cable system had a switch built in to the throttle return cable to turn off the cruise, then it became all electronic with the '08 change to the electronic throttle control.  The guy with the 2010 has something wrong with his and he needs to take it in and get it fixed.  Could be something as simple as a binding grip or sensor, if the grip won't in fact move forward at all.

You can also pull in the clutch to deactivate the cruise control setting.

On the cable (old style) that roll off switch goes bad pretty often.   Mine doesn't work anymore.  :(

Hmmm, my switch on my '06SEUC must not have ever worked, as it doesn't cancel with the throttle for me? I always just flick the front brake lever lightly.

My 2010 FLHXSE works as advertised (roll throttle forward and deactivated).

I could be mistaken but I'm convinced that rolling the throttle increases the speed so I can overtake etc. and then goes back to it's set speed once the throttle is returned.

That seems to be the same as cruise control functions on my car???

That's not the same "roll" that's the subject of the thread however.  You are opening the throttle turning the grip back toward you, and yes it works just like a car.  When you release the grip the speed returns to what you had set in the cruise control.  If you roll the grip forward, toward closed throttle, then the system should disengage the cruise control.  If it does not, there is something wrong.

To expand Jerry's explanation a bit for illustration assume for a moment you had a bike that still had throttle cables.  You actually have not two throttle cables but one throttle cable and one idle cable.  Or, to put it differently, one to raise the RPM (throttle) and one to bring the RPM back down (toward idle).

Turning your hand toward you pulls the throttle cable.  Turning your hand away from you pulls the idle cable.  The roll off switch is in the idle cable.  Those same functions are copied electronically in your bike with electronic throttle.
