Second Bike for BIG BLUE Owner... What?
« on: September 01, 2011, 12:35:34 AM »

Bomb around town, in summer, lots of air, lighter bike, ride to work, local runs with the boys.....

I am dead spoiled with the nicest bike I have ever owned in BIG BLUE, best in 40 year...  Over 3000 on it in the first month and still going..

But this is the first day of spring, what about a little bomb around...???  I like the Old School look of the Fat Boy, rigid look like a 1950 Panhead HydraGlide look, and the three head lights are Old School...  Thinking about a fire engine read one, this year model close out, and they will put a 103 Stage 1 kit, triple headlights (for roos) and indicators, this has the all chrome mag wheels, they will go 103 badges on the engine... And engine protection bars (leg protection)

What do you think?  Would this be a light little bomb around in fine weather, local runner but still the big Hawg Look?  I looked at the new Dyna Swithback but I do not need the windscreen or bags and I think the Softail might handle better?  Chunkier?  May not be able to do the three headlights on the Switchback...    Any Help?  Feel, power, ride, handling for a PHATT Number Two the Roo Side lights???

I have sold my Streetie, as it was too close to the BIG BLUE, and I would never ride it... But maybe a lighter bike to throw around a bit on a hot day?  Fat Boy?
Any comments welcome... Thank you in advance, Cowboy down under...

Personal preference for sure but if I was in your shoes I would get a Fatboy. I had one and loved it!

I'd go with the Switchback if it was me. It reminds me of the 70's FL's. You can get it in red. A buddy of mine just bought one, I've ridden it and really like it. The windshield and bags are detachable. The only thing not up to power is the front brake.

MIKER, THAT WAS ME.... I WAS ONE OF THOSE.... !!!  Really, 66 Shovel in a 57 Rigid Frame, two in stretch in the down legs so a 10" over sat level...  David Mann, EasyRider Magazine sort of stuff:  Foot clutch, Jockey shifter on the tranny, Fire Blue like my BIG BLUE Dresser is now...
That was me, Old School, now leaning on 60 y.o.

But now in Australia, the engineering and registration laws are so bad as to virtually make it in the too hard basket to do...

After sleeping on it all night, I am thinking the Fat Bob is too close to my full Dresser BIG BLUE...  I mean it is not going to go any better in a 103 than my CVO 110, same platform and shifters and same front end.. What am I talking about here, all I am going to do on the Fat Boy is miss some of the toys on BIG BLUE.  And, my CVO Ultra will keep up with the Boys just fine, so what am I doing?????

Right now I am thinking for my Sunday Go to Church ride, I will look at finding an antique Panhead or early pre AMF Shovel Antique Dresser... Is that too Crazy?   But I have to admit, that Scarlet Red Fat Boy is still in the running.....

If you can live without it being a new bike find an old FXR.  Best handling hopper to mid-range bike ever.

Love my 08 Crossbones as a second, around town bike.  Light, old school looks, and with the 96 it gets around just fine.  I've put narrow beach bars and chromed out the engine so it looks more old school.  Plus, you can put the triple lights on the front.

They are sweet bikes Brad.  Any of the FXRs qualify.  I keep saying that two bikes is all one guy needs.  So 2.7642whatevetitis at the Road King project slowly plods forward is just silly.  But it'd be 3.73828orsomesuchnumber if an FXRT or FXRD reared it's front wheel at a "buy-me" kind of price.  Any old FXR is a great ride.  Miss mine from when they were contemporary and just the bikes we rode and beat up.

Well first I would have kept the SESG you had, but that's just me! Second, I have always loved the looks of the Fatboy, have not owned one yet, maybe someday. I don't know how hard used bikes are to find in OZ. Just gonna throw this out there. If money was not a factor my first choice for a lighter, around town/bar hopper would be a used 2010/2011 CVO Softail Convertible, (they come in Blue/Black) to match "Big Blue". Or I also like the 2006 CVO SE Fatboy, it already has a 103". Just something to think about. Lots of good ideas here.
