Ship Date Accuracy
« on: September 01, 2011, 03:40:16 PM »

Just wanted to ask those of you who have ordered a bike in the past how accurate the ship dates are?  Was just told that my SEUC7 is due to be shipped on the 7th of October.  Didn't know if you could really count on that info or not.  Thanks in advance.

If you mean can you rely 100% on that ship date, the simple answer is no.  At this point the bike isn't even assembled yet, and any date is just an estimate.  Even after the bikes are actually assembled and released for shipment, there can be delays while they wait to fill a trailer before the truck hits the road on it's way to the dealers.  And it's not unusual for the scheduled production dates to slip a little one way or the other either.  Consider that estimated ship date to be a rough estimate at this point, and ask the dealer to let you know when it gets updated.

Ask your dealer to email you the VIN number when they get it, that way you know it won't be long and can get more exited.
I did and it worked for me.

They have me on speed dial. :) I'm leaving on a weekend road trip this morning. I'll probably get a call today telling me the bike arrived.

Jerry spelled it out pretty well.  Once your dealer has a VIN number for you, your bike has been built but like Jerry said, it can still sit at the front of a truck, waiting for the rest of the truck to fill (they're filling many trucks at a time, depending what direction they're headed and what model bike it is that's going that direction).

Even when the truck has left the docks, there could be unforseen issues on the road that could set the truck back by a day or more.  On a very rare occassion, the truck got to Calif. a day or two early.  Of course coming from York (in years past), Calif. is about as far away as it could get.

Depending on how many stops that truck has between the docks and your dealership will also affect the delivery.

May not be any consolation for you but some of us can remember the days of waiting 6 months or more for our bike once we paid our deposit and that was the normal course of things back then.   Even as recently as 2003 (MY 2004) I think I waited a bit over four months for my SEEG).

I walked into the Dealer three weeks ago.  I ask if they had the CVO Ultra in the color I wanted.  Was surprised  when they said they received notice one was shipped two days before and they expected it within the week.  I told them I would buy it but please check on shipping.  They called and were told the bike was waiting for a truck to fill and it might be another two weeks.  One week later the bike show up.  You never know

Mine is scheduled to ship on the 7th, but that was a couple weeks ago when my dealer last checked.  I guess I better get him to check again to see if it has changed or if they have a VIN yet.  I figured they would vary a little in delivery times due to having to make stops at other dealers along the way.  Did not realize they also varied in actual shipping dates due to having to fill the truck they load it onto.  How antiquated is Harley's tracking and order system anyways?  I find it hard to believe with today's technology they do not know exactly when enough bikes will be finished to fill each and every truck so they can ship.
