Jerry spelled it out pretty well. Once your dealer has a VIN number for you, your bike has been built but like Jerry said, it can still sit at the front of a truck, waiting for the rest of the truck to fill (they're filling many trucks at a time, depending what direction they're headed and what model bike it is that's going that direction).
Even when the truck has left the docks, there could be unforseen issues on the road that could set the truck back by a day or more. On a very rare occassion, the truck got to Calif. a day or two early. Of course coming from York (in years past), Calif. is about as far away as it could get.
Depending on how many stops that truck has between the docks and your dealership will also affect the delivery.
May not be any consolation for you but some of us can remember the days of waiting 6 months or more for our bike once we paid our deposit and that was the normal course of things back then. Even as recently as 2003 (MY 2004) I think I waited a bit over four months for my SEEG).
