How Many CVO's Rot on the Vine
« on: September 08, 2011, 07:10:32 PM »

I saw an earlier discussion on CVO numbers by year, model, color...  I wonder, how many CVO's does HD have a surplus of each year?  Do they all sell?  Do dealerships start running bargains on them before the next model year arrives?

Most ultras and SG's sell out. The Softails, Dyna's, and V-Rods seem to linger. Guess that's why they only have one non-touring bike now.

They sell em all as far as I have seen.  Rare to see a new CVO on a dealers showroom that is not of the current model year.  Only model I saw that on was with the CVO Fat Boys one year.  Those seemed to linger a bit but never seen a CVO touring bike linger long on a showroom floor.

Saw an '08 Dyna still on the showfloor at the HD dealer in Albert Lea, MN last month. Been there every time I have since '08. Has 110 miles on it now, never been titled. Very rare, but some do linger. Generally the bar hoppers.

Saw an unsold, new, 09 CUSE4 on the floor in Berlin HD (Germany) this summer....

That's rediculous. I have only been in the Harley world since 09 so I can only speak from that point but I saw the Dyna Fatbobs all over the place in 2010 as late as the 2011 arrivals. I bought one of them on an out of town trip after getting the price I wanted. One dealer in East TN had a  SERG from '11 just sell a month ago. I have heard some dealers say the RG is tougher to sell than the UC.

I am sure they sell them all eventually, it's not like they are going to take them to the scrap metal yard. Tell that dealer to call me if he really wants to unload that '08. I'll give him $3000.LOL

I would guess that in the Chicago area, virtually every dealer has at least one older Non-Touring CVO in stock. I run into them all the time, but the Touring bikes go pretty quickly. I was actually shocked when I saw a Krypton SG last more than a month this year at City-Limits. They all eventually go.

I picked up my '08 105th Anniversary Dyna in August of 2010. It was the last of 4 FXDSE2 that my dealer had and they had it marked down a fair amount to move it. I had looked at it in '08 and decided that I couldn't swing it then... Couldn't pass it up last year. Already have almost 11,000 miles on it in about 6 months of riding time!  :jalapeno:

I just checked the website.  Zepka HD in Johnstown PA has 3 "new" CVO's in stock right now.  A 2010 & 2011 Softail Convertible and one 2011 Ultra.  I bought my 2010 Ultra CVO there a few months ago. . . it was used with 359 miles on it.

2011 FLTRUSE at Walters Bros. in Peoria, IL.  Saw it today.  Even in this economy I was a little surprised that it's still there.  Got mine last October.

Eastside HD in Washington has had a new CVO Roadglide on the floor for the longest time I have ever seen one sitting around, but at their prices and attitude most of us in this area know why!!!!!!!!!!

You will usually only see bikes overlapping years (only speaking of touring bikes) because they ship late to the dealers. Our current bike didn't arrive at dealer till May and they received 3 CVO bikes that day? Road Glide/Street Glide have been the first to sell followed by Ultra. You might see one or two from time to time but not often.

I do recall seeing quote new bikes on the floor once say 6 months into the new model year (was a black 10 street glide I think) I thought wow only to realize it had 400 miles on it and the owner brought it back to sell?

9 times out of 10 they are pre sold or go quick. If you are looking for a bike this group will find it for you!

Only an unscientific observation, but it seems smaller dealerships in less affluent areas have a harder time moving their CVOs.  Also, those "hardheaded" dealers that mark their CVOs up, or refuse to come off the MSRP on past year models seem to keep CVOs on the floor.  Can't understand why a dealer would keep an older CVO at MSRP when there is a newer model sitting right beside it, also marked at MSRP.

1 dealers in my area have a red and a gray 2011 cvo Road Glides and at least 1 cvo convertable on the floor. Another has 2 reds and 1 gray 2011 RG'S and several
2011 converables still. I saw all of these last weeknd. 1 has a 2012 cvo Red street glide. Man tha SG is a sweet bike. Wish I had an extra 34K to put into my garage. It would look really good next to the cvo Rg.

I think this may be the same dealer that I talked to a few years ago about an 06 cvo fatboy the guy would not budge on the msrp... at that time he had a few cvo that were a year or two old....
