Another interesting thing, FR8 - check out the Y/O and Y/V lines from the HFM.  They don't go anywhere!  What's the point in running them all the way to the front of the bike to have them connect to nothing?  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Probably something they have planned since they also go to the 2 "future" connectors they show in there........now to speculate what they might add in the future....now that might be worth a few minutes of brain power. ;)

And it didn't need the "digital tech to have it be recognized. Its a tool that Harley dealers use when changing electronics on harley. " that Zanotti suggested?

Jim

I have a very vague understanding of the digital tech....but as I understand it.....it's more of an ECM interface....has nothing to do (nor any place to hook up) to the radio....you can go on the website and download the same software I have in mine.....which may already be whats in there.  I really doubt it's a software problem....there has to be an external trigger to tell it the HFM is there.  Perhaps the reset FXD mentioned would take care of it, simple enough to do...and I do recall having to do that to mine once also...now that he mentions it.

Mine is paired but I can't get a headset response.  Although I didn't get a manual either.

Is it possible my Palm phone would work with the system?  The phones they list doesn't have the Palm as of February update.  I thought any Bluetooth phone would work and mine works with both a Motorola and a Palm earpice.  The radio recognizes the phone.

The dealer called today and has a manual in now that I ordered, hopefully that solves the question.

Try cycling the power to the bluetooth module. Unplug the connector then plug it back in. Mine hung up and that's how I cleared it. Some how The main radio goes out and looks to see if the module is there. I think there may be a software glitch.

I tried that, with the ignition off - maybe I should try with it on.....

If it pairs, hopefully it will work, though it's not guaranteed!

Just a very quick web search; here's the closest thing I found to your Island in the pond.  With any luck someone there will know where to send you for definitive information.

Harman/Becker Automotive Systems – Wales
Bennett Street
Bridgend Industrial Estate
Bridgend, CF31 3SH, Wales
United Kingdom
PHONE: 011.44.1656.645441
FAX: 011.44.1656.650327

Thanks Twolane!  I'd tried to find that with Google, but could only find their German site.

I rang them, they hadn't a clue, and gave me a number for their UK sales Office. They didn't have a clue either, and they;ve given me a number for their sales/marketing office in the US.   It's in Michigan they said - 248 994 2100.  I note from the web site they have offices in Farmington Hills (MI), Franklin (KY), Martinsville (IN), Northridge (CA) and Upper Saddle River (NJ), so I can see today generating an expensive telephone bill!  :-/   I only hope that when I do get to the right place that they are willing to talk to the end user, and don't say "you have to speak to HD" - we all know how well that will <not> work....

Good luck Jim.  If you want to avoid a lot of int'l tolls let me know.  Type up the description of issues as best you possibly can and I'll make some US calls for you.

Twolane, that would be kindness above and beyond the call of duty!  I'm thinking not just of the international tolls, but them understanding my Scottish accent!

I guess the starting point would be if you could call the number I have - 248 994 2100 - and explain you want the number for the technical staff who develop the firmware for the Harman/Kardon Advanced Audio System on Harleys, to ask about a problem that Harley themselves can't help with.

Basically - if you get that far - the question is, have they "forgotten" to enable the Bluetooth/hands free phone option in the firmware for use on European (specifically the UK in this instance) models.  A correctly installed module is just not recognised by the system.

If you get a friendly on the other end of the phone, ask him when the fix for 06 CBs not being able to communicate with earlier HDs with the Radiosound unit will be released too! ;-)

If you pull this off, I owe you many of these ----->  [smiley=drink.gif]

Jim, don't know what it will turn out to be.  But the woman answering the phone at that number said "Ben is THE guy to talk to on those radios."  Trouble is Ben's voicemail says he's out of the office all week.

Ben's voicemail did leave a name for contact while he was gone but that person (Alan) wasn't answering at the moment.  Will try again later and let you know if anything is found.

It's a strange one. I thought it was restricted to the UK CBs (our frequencies are slightly different, and on FM) until I read that poor old CVOinLV was having a similar issue:

 http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1132341485

and it's a problem that HD acknowledge, and has bee affecting some people from the early days:

Jim,
Just got a call back from someone at HK.  Learned a few things.  Yes, they have had a few firmware issues.  Yes, this is one of them.  No, it isn't likely related to any CB issue.

The gentleman said his point of contact at HD was at US phone 414-343-4056.  He said anyone in that shop should be aware of the problem and be able to help.  One name in particular he suggested was Bob Coolidge.

He also said the fix might even involve swapping out radios.  HK is (apparently) willing to swap out before removal but it is, of course, up to Harley as to how it would specifically be handled.

In any case; call that number and speak with the reps there.  That's supposed to be an accessory electrical/electronics HD shop that is the place to start getting actual help and (hopefully) a solution.  I gathered that they'd contact your dealer after the issue was brought to their attention.

Good luck,
Don

Don, I can't thank you enough!  You are a true gentleman!

So there we have it, I guess, they HAVE "forgotten" to include the PHONE in the European Firmware!  I'll call that Harley number tomorrow and see if they will talk sense, then contact the dealer.

Again, many, many thanks for the effort you have put in to helping me.

No biggie Jim.  I just made three quick phone calls on a calling plan that charges the same no matter how many you make.  The guy at HK was good enough to send it to an engineer at HK who actually knew about it and that guy was good enough to call me back and chat for a bit during a business day.

Unlike the effort/availability we too often get when trying to get hold of someone at HDI HK/HB seems interested in doing their patrons solid service.  That in and of itself is enough to make me feel better about having put their radio in my bike.
