No biggie Jim.  I just made three quick phone calls on a calling plan that charges the same no matter how many you make.  The guy at HK was good enough to send it to an engineer at HK who actually knew about it and that guy was good enough to call me back and chat for a bit during a business day.

Unlike the effort/availability we too often get when trying to get hold of someone at HDI HK/HB seems interested in doing their patrons solid service.  That in and of itself is enough to make me feel better about having put their radio in my bike.

Yes, amazing - if we'd started off trying to get to somebody at the MoCo to talk to it would have taken weeks, and then they'd have said "talk to your dealer"! I'll call that HD number today and speak to the guys there, hoping they'll play ball!

But thanks ARE due to you Don - your taking the time and trouble to help me out is just the sort of thing that makes this board such a great place!  [smiley=drink.gif] [smiley=drink.gif] [smiley=drink.gif]

The gentleman said his point of contact at HD was at US phone 414-343-4056.  He said anyone in that shop should be aware of the problem and be able to help.  One name in particular he suggested was Bob Coolidge.

That number is straight to HD Customer service, sadly - and of course, they say "unless you are a dealer, you don't talk to the techs" in true MoCo style. Bob Coolidge is away in Laconia and won't be back till Tuesday of next week, but I asked if I could speak to someone else in his department - back to the "unless you are a dealer, you don't talk to the techs"  line.  :(   So they said they'll make their international liaison guy aware that there is a problem, and he'll contact my dealer.... <sigh> So in a few months, maybe I'll get some word.

Did you get the name of the friendly gent at HK, Don?

Was originally sent to a Ben Emil (that last name is real sketchy, but that's what it sounded like she said).  Ben was supposed to be THE guy to know about Harley stuff.  He's out til the end of the week though.  From him got an Alan Miller.  Miller sent me to the guy who gave the name for the contact at HD (Bob Coolidge).  Unfortunately, however, I seem to have not gotten the name from this last guy from HK down in the notes.  FWIW he called from 248-994-2756.

At least with the Coolidge guy's name as a point of contact at Harley you might call in and claim to be his gay lover or something and get put through.  Harley totally sucks where customer service issue handling is concerned.  Their hubris and arrogance in hiding from their clientele is truly singular when compared to any other major corporation I'm aware of.

Thanks Don. You sure got that correct!  :-/  I was reading the copy of HOG Tales that came yesterday (we get it late here) and there's an article in there by one of the many VPs they have saying how grateful he and Willie G are for the support of HOG members, how we brought them back from the brink in 85 when the MoCo was facing bankruptcy, how we are one big family, etc., and I thought to myself "what a load of bull."   They don't give a toss about their customers, as long as they have our $$$$,  and are the worst example of the planet on customer service.

And the answer is......

"There was an undetermined number of Bluetooth modules recently discovered that are unable to be powered-up / recognized by the Advanced Audio System.

Before performing wiring diagnostics, determine if the module has the small sticker shown in the attached picture in it's corner. If not, the unit is likely one of those affected."

Took a lot of work to find THAT out! Thanks MoFoMoCo as usual.... >:(

Sorry you had to work this long on it.

You'll love it when you get it working.

Hope so RJ!  :)

When the replacement eventually arrives..... I'm hoping that I will be able to pair my HP iPaq phone, and - as I did on my last Ultra - use if as my GPS too, hearing the instructions through my headset, with the Audio System thinking it's relaying an incoming phone call.  Think that'll work??

Not sure on the GPS although the HD one is wired in that way.

I had to buy a new phone as the Treo700 would not communicate with the HK system.  Just added a Motorola phone to my family account, $10 a month but worth it.  Worked the first time I linked.  The list of phones it works with is listed on the HD site.

Yes, I know about the list on the HD site, but I'm hoping it's not exclusive! :-)  Don't care too much about the fancy features - I can mount the phone in the case I have that goes on the bars, and control all the phone and GPS stuff there, just want the access to the audio system as it were.....

Jim, at least the good news is you've seemed to have been given a solution.  Apparently still waiting on the resultion.  But just knowing someone actually has their arms around the issue must be something of a relief.

Begs the question of course of how a production got through QC of a product that simply (and completely) doesn't work with the family of equipment it is designed for.  I only know of a small number of bikes with the BT module installed so don't have a large cohort to really get good numbers from.  But yours is the only one I've heard to have suffered this particular screw up.

You ever wonder if there is a secret office at Harley Davidson/Milwaukee way high up in the corporate structure.  No name on the door.  Black limo and helicopter available for the person's use.  No one knows who he is except for the top hand full of people.  And only the CEO, CFO and COO really know that this is the office of the Vice President for Testing of Consumer Patience.  Because for Christ's sake they sure seem to make a conscious effort to come up with new ways to screw with us all the time.  They're too smart to screw up that often.  So it's got to be a coordinated effort  ;D .

I'm in the mood to get this CB thing sorted out too  >:(  :) So I called that number - answered by voicemail, says "You've reached the number of Tom Bowler" so I'm hoping that's the guy you spoke to Don.   Name ring a bell now you've heard it?

Don,

I think you've hit the nail right on the head.  It's hard to believe that any reasonably competent company could just accidently screw up as much as the MoCo and still stay in business.  It has to be a concious effort to mess with our minds, since they know we are dumb enough to keep coming back for more.  Don't worry, though, after all of us ol' dumb azzes die off they might have to actually put out something the consumer wants, and do it right the first time.

Jim...can you hear the GPS commands on a regular BlueTooth headset??  I really don't think your gonna hear those instructions thru the BlueTooth...I have text messages sent to me that usually set off a ring just like a call coming in (different tone of course) and that doesn't make it across.  I think the system is smart enough to know the difference.
