Mileage Check?
« on: September 12, 2011, 09:40:12 AM »

As a member of 3 HOG groups and work for a motorcycle magazine I naturally put a lot of miles on my bike every year. So far for me, I am just a little over 18K of great adventurous story telling miles.

Mileage down a bit this year. Wife is recovering from ovarian cancer.  Last check up the Dr. said "no sign of cancer".  Thank you Jesus.  :)

While being in Alaska is really not an excuse... the nearest town with similar amenities as Fairbanks is about a 4 hour trip... the nearest city with the same (and more) is about 5 1/2 hours away.  Then there's Anchorage, right at 6 to 7 hours, depending on weather and density of the State Troopers  :stop:.  Having started this season on my '08 DWG on April 12th I got in 15 good days of riding (750+ mi) before I used it for the downpayment for "Sheila" on May 7th.  I managed to get 17,850+ miles on the DWG in about 16 months of safe riding weather.

Now, understand too, being the current Activities Officer for the Fairbanks HOG Chapter, I get in a little more miles than the average (non-retired) rider... Still, there's only three directions out of town for a weekly ride night.  While there are some great places to ride for the scenery and good eats, most folks will not do more than an hour in either direction, just for a weekly ride with the group.

I've turned over 5,800 miles this morning, and have only ridden the new bike for 107 out of a possible 128 days.  Just can't seem to stay out of the saddle. :)

Next year, I'll be taking "Sheila" outside of Alaska and will probably add an additional 10,000 miles to my usual annual of 8,000+    :2cr_01:

Had the bike for three full months, and waiting on the weather to cooperate. Havent ridden in 20 years, so there was a period of getting familiar with the bike again. Then it was working around the blast furnace we had for a summer so far this year in North Texas.

Definitely want more time on the bike, but riding at 110 on a 110 is HOT! Just around 1000 miles so far, and all in the last couple of months. I guess I am a wimp. :D

Got ours a little late in the season...like last month.  Since I've actually had it at my house, I've already put over 350 miles on.  Perhaps next year will be different.

Averaging about 7,500 miles a year. Not nearly enough but when you live in MN, the weather dictates the season.

I'd hate to break in a new 110 with that much ambient heat.

Only about 7K this year on the SEDFB. Have to split the miles with the Non-CVO touring bike.

Well, the Snow and Ice have arrived...   >:(

I didn't make my target mileage,  :(  but still got in more than most folks up here that haven't taken their rides outside of Alaska.   8)

Put "Sheila" to bed for the Winter with 6,450 miles in only 5 months.   :2vrolijk_21:

Purchased on 10-19-10.

Today, 10-18-11, I have 11,812 miles. Only had 4 miles on it when I bought it. 4,026 miles were from our trip out West.
