While being in Alaska is really not an excuse... the nearest town with similar amenities as Fairbanks is about a 4 hour trip... the nearest city with the same (and more) is about 5 1/2 hours away. Then there's Anchorage, right at 6 to 7 hours, depending on weather and density of the State Troopers

. Having started this season on my '08 DWG on April 12th I got in 15 good days of riding (750+ mi) before I used it for the downpayment for "Sheila" on May 7th. I managed to get 17,850+ miles on the DWG in about 16 months of safe riding weather.
Now, understand too, being the current Activities Officer for the Fairbanks HOG Chapter, I get in a little more miles than the average (non-retired) rider... Still, there's only three directions out of town for a weekly ride night. While there are some great places to ride for the scenery and good eats, most folks will not do more than an hour in either direction, just for a weekly ride with the group.
I've turned over 5,800 miles this morning, and have only ridden the new bike for 107 out of a possible 128 days. Just can't seem to stay out of the saddle.

Next year, I'll be taking "Sheila" outside of Alaska and will probably add an additional 10,000 miles to my usual annual of 8,000+
