Saddle Bag Lid Guards
« on: September 24, 2011, 02:47:19 PM »

Did anyone install these on there bike ? If so can you post some pics. I'm thinking about putting the Air Wing  type on my Black FLHXSE2 and I was hoping to see them on a bike.

Thanks

IMO if you want the cooler ones go for the spoiler lights with no rails.  Colormatched.  I think the guards are too much bling.  The lit spoilers are great, I had 'em on my '03 Ultra.

Well I have to say that looks good.  Bling to me means too much chrome.  Since yours are black they don't take away from the paint.  They really go great with the Kryptonite paint scheme.

Another vote for the color matched spoilers with LEDs.  I had them on my '11 RGC amd made them part of the deal for my RGC CVO.  Waiting for those to arrive with the Tour*pak.

If you are interested in the rails primarily to protect the saddlebag lids, HD now offers a clear film kit; and, many here use Motorcycle Armor's product.

I, too, had the saddlebag spoiler LED's and didn't realize how meager their light output was until I road behind a buddy's bike who had them--I now consider them to be essentially a cosmetic accessory.

Good luck with your choice.

The spoilers do look really cool but offer no protection. I have seen some of the clear protection and I'm not really a fan. The black on black look doesn't work for me. I am leaning toward the chrome lid guards. I'm thinking some chrome on all that black would add some nice contrast.

I too have been looking at the 3m paint guard stuff.  There are several flavors with different adhesion methods from different manufacturers.  The only problem I see with it is the edges.  You always get a line that forms at the edge.  If you ever take 'em off you would have to polish that off I guess.

Anyways when my wife gets on she will almost always hit her heel on the saddlebag top.  The armor stuff is good for that and I might live with just that set since it ain't cheap.

Spot on about the led spoilers not being very bright, but they do put out enough to supplement running and braking lites IMO.  Plus they look SWEEEET!

I too have the LEDs integrated into the rail foil on the back .. OR .. you can put 600 LEDs underneath and lite em up if ya wanna be seen ..  But ... I also have the protective film in other areas .. Might see an edge at times but... better than scuffs, scratches and chips ..
Jus sayin ... my opinion .. LOL  :cucumber: :coolblue:

How hard was the film to put on and where did you wind up putting it?
