Lumberjack Day, West Point, Calif. 10/1/11
« on: October 02, 2011, 08:11:02 PM »

Big Lew (Mike) showed up here at our home Friday afternoon, from North Carolina.  He and I rode down to the Buckhorn Grill for a little tri-tip dinner then down to old town.  Showed him around a bit.....the original Pony Express office down on the waterfront, the paddle wheeler the Delta King, etc.

Sat. morning we got up, Terrie & I and Mike headed for the hills.....

Headed for the gold country, we went south on Hwy. 49 to Mokelumne Hill.  Stopped for breakfast  at Thomi's where we met up with Jonga (Jon) & wasjons (Susan) and Jon's daughter, Kayla.  Van was supposed to meet up with us here but he got lost in the back woods of the gold country and we wouldn't see him till later.

A couple interesting cars at Thomai's.....a 57 Chev wagon (not a Nomad) and a 56 Olds....

After a short ride on Hwy. 26, a small backwoods two lane highway with it's share of twists and ups and downs.....mostly ups, we arrived in West Point.  Many streets blocked off in this little mountain community and so many people it looked like they'd bust them in from the closest large metropolitan area.  Plenty of parking available at $3 to $5 a vehicle......in large vacant dirt lots and pasture that had been mowed down for the occassion.  No thanks, we pressed on.  Finally we found a place to park, paved, where Main St. meets the highway at the top of the hill and best of all.......the price was right....free! :2vrolijk_21:

We arrived to late to see the soap box derby races down the hill on Main St.  Unlike the scouts, no specifictions or limits on these cars so there was an intersting array of lil vehicles

3rd place winner displaying trophy and ribbon....

For those of you from small rural areas, this probably looks familiar.  For those of us from the larger cities it looked more like something you see in a movie.......  Come on everybody, we're just in time for the parade.....

lumbar trucks in the Lumberjack Day parade.....of course...

Straight out of North Cacalacky direct to the west coast is Mike (Big Lew, soon to be members of this forum Jay & Ron, Jon & Kayla (Susan was off getting a massage), Terrie and Van (V-DIDDY)  :2vrolijk_21:

Kayla will drop into a "pose" at the site of a camera.  She's a natural, that's for sure. :2vrolijk_21:

Since this event is a fundraiser for the community, the King and Queen are those that sold the most tickets to the event.  So it's not so much a popularity contest and everybody stands an equal chance....

a couple of the Red Hat Mammas.... :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

the weenie dog on the left shows the size of this little nanny goat....

a real pipe organ that was running off of steam.....just like back in the old days...

and I'm sure many of you will recognize your school bus..... ;D

CVO members....

interesting float.  The lights were flashing, bells ringing and the wheels on the cart were turning....

This float was hillarious.  A lumberjack being shot out of cannon (on a pulley and cable) with an ax out in front of his head, shooting for the bullseye tree ring....

a native Californian.....

We went down the street to another area where the lumberjack competition was about to start.  Everything from ax throwing, choke cable setting, gentlemen's sawing contest, suspension walking, team cutting, etc. etc.  I was surprised at how many women entered the competition and were really good at it.  Due to rapid fire, I was able to catch this lady in action and she hit the bulls eye dead center! :2vrolijk_21:

some weren't so lucky....

Jon, Susan and Kayla had front row seats

The gentlemen's saw competition.....this was the winner at 14.7 seconds...

Everybody was getting anxious to go ride the area so we didn't stay for the rest of it.....we bailed.  Here's a shot half way back up the hill where we were parked and where the soap box derby races were held early that morning...

We rode over to the Pioneer Resort Lodge and got checked in to our rooms and rode on up Hwy. 88 to Cook's Station....an old Pony Express stop, stage stop, bordello, hotel and saloon from the 1800's.  We also left messages for the two ghosts that supposedly haunt the place.  By the way, to our surprise, the meals were all really great! :2vrolijk_21:

Jay and Ron drove up and ate with us and Marty (110 mofo aka 10 Beers) rode down from Reno and we all had dinner....

All of us headed back to the hotel and sit out by the pool and told stories......some were true and some we just made up as we went along.....great time, great company, very relaxing and off to bed.

This morning Terrie headed for home and I rode south on Hwy. 49 with Marty.

Marty rollin.....

Marty and I split up in Oakdale......he headed to So Cal and I was headed back home.  On a two lane road out in the middle of nowhere I noticed a CHP come around the bend and ...............well..........he wanted to have a chat so he flipped a u-turn and ...........well, it started out a great weekend. :nixweiss:

We have passed by so many of those Black and White cars together in the past, and they never caught up before? Bummer, I hate to see them open your wallet like that.
P.S. That photo is only funny when Jock is leaning on the car!

Great pics. How did you load them like that? I sure wish i knew how to do that!

Lumberjack Days looked like a great time. Exotic looking parade with lots o characters. I am really surprised that a blue street glide didn't find it's way into the parade. If you'd brought your Coulterville trophy.

Sorry I couldn't be there. It couldn't be helped because I was in New Mexico but now am in Salida, CO spending the night. Got a few pics of my bike on the Royal Gorge bridge. There was no traffic so I pretended I was The only person in the world and did what I wanted to do just like I was a Street Glider.

Does Terrie know? Got any ass left?

Get your "Motor Running Head", out on the highway!

What we've got here is... failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach. So you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it... well, he gets it. I don't like it any more than you men

Load the pictures into Flicker then give me a call (not tonight.....I'm already in bed).

Sounds like you're pretty much following the route I set up for you?  Sounds like you're having a great time. :2vrolijk_21:

Oh yes, she knows........called her while he was writing.  Of course I've got an ass left......I'm not even close to catching up with her....I still have safe driver discount  :2vrolijk_21:

That reminds me of when they used to have the Loggers Jamboree up in North Fork years ago before they shut the Lumber Mill down :sweatdrop:

Well JC it appeared that you had a good time until that moment and I am saddened to read of the result...I trust the law of averages are in your favor as Dave point out and this one will be at a minimum.
