Rob, I would call you a traitor :behead:... but your new Beemer is one incredible bike! Lots of engineering there that the MoCo would do well to at least TRY to imitate...

I was seriously in love with the **** ** and was ready to pull the trigger until I did some research and read about all the problems. Now I fall in love with the *** and was going to go take a test ride this weekend but after reading these 17 pages representing a wide variety of problems experienced by more than one person I'm not so sure.

- Windshield doesn't do its job well
- Ipod / USB problems
- Starter problems
- Cooked body parts
- High beam switch problems
- Bike wants to pull left
- Chrome badges falling off
- Gaps in the side boxes
- Water pump leaks
- Menu switches malfunctioning
- Starting issues
- Stereo sucks at speed.
- Replacement parts unavailable

And I only listed the ones that had multiple people experiencing the same problems !! Why in the world do so many people on this forum write this kind of stuff off as "minor" or "all new bikes have these problems"?!?! That is simply NOT the case in my many years (30+) of experience buying bikes. It sounds like the same old thing you see from *** on every new model, and its been going on for years, yet the kool-aid drinkers continue to defend ***. I just don't get it.....

If I am going to shell out $27K on a bike I expect it to function properly in every aspect....right away, not after numerous trips to the shop for repairs of defective components or software.

I am still infatuated with this bike but I think I may wait a year or so and see what shakes out with this ride.

Let the flaming begin......

The text above is a direct lift from the BMW 1600 forum thread titled "Here's a list of my problems with the K1600GTL, list yours here too".

Any of this sound familiar? Guess there is no "Perfect" bike. Even if you spend $27-$40K.

What amazes me (until I have to shell out $1k for a repair bill) is that any motorcycle hangs together with all the moving parts, physics, and torture involved in just riding them around.

I've had no mechanical problems (knock on fake wood imported from  Taiwan on a Chinese Freighter and trucked through Mexico by an illegal in a Japanese Van) so far with the last 4 HD's

well nothing that I didn't cause by dropping in a 124 in a 00 Softail Frame.

All 4 RK and RG's I"ve owned from 98 forward,
been pretty lucky, no parts falling off, or breaking
that are of any significance,  I don't count the water logged
horn that quit when we rode through the toad strangler
that took out mine and another RG CVO's horn, even though we
had lowers on.  LOL

The stuff listed is more ya oughta do this
than fix it to me...

Maybe we should make a list from this thread eh?  ;) I guess you'd rather spend 40k and have more problems....  :P

LRS,  How about an engine that has a quiet valve train. Mine really gets on my nerves between 2200 and 2800 RPMS. Wish I could find a cure for that. CAHDBIKER

When you find one that has a quiet valve train, let us know.  My GW, when I had it, sounded like a sewing machine, and my BMW K100LT, chattered like a squirrel...I've never had a bike yet where I didn't hear the valve train...
