:zwtf:

The hottest thread on a Harley motorcycle related forum is about a BMW

 :ROFLOL:

I agree!!! I realize I am a newbie on here so my opinion (for what it's worth to all of you) is that this is a lot of "ta-da" about a different brand. I agree this is the "general" topics and I am "Grown-up" so it IS informative but it's not a Harley. I bought my first Harley new in 1979 and it was a real POS!!! I wrote Harley a letter long after the warranty expired and they told me to take it back where I bought it and they would take care of me, and they did (totally rebuilt the engine) and I have been loyal to Harley ever since that. I DO like other motorcycles and feel to each their own as long as they ride, more power to them. This is my first CVO and actually it is in the shop for some warranty work as I write this but it is a Great bike and I will stand behind Harley as always, besides, I can't afford to have my Harley Tattoo removed and replaced with any other brand name!!! LOL!!!

You know what they say about opinions, so with that in mind, Flame Away!!!

No flaming here.  :) As I mentioned, I started the thread as I had several people contact me after they heard about it. I'm keeping my Harley as well. At least this way I can still ride while mine is in the shop (as it has been many, many times this first year). This isn't my first Harley nor my first CVO.

Glad to hear they took care of you back in 1979 or so. My current dealer (over 100 miles away, by choice) takes great care of me too. I know there are a lot of great dealerships out there still, but it's always great to hear stories about them. Thanks for sharing.  :2vrolijk_21:

Peg lowering kit from suburban machinery, I had the "high seat" only about 3/4" higher. The seat did not work for me, felt like it was made of wood! But I'm an old fat guy with a bad back so I need all the help I can get. FYI this might help with negotiations I paid $25,200.00 + T&L, had it on order since 10-2010. Purchased from Bentonville BMW in AR.

Big G,

Had them send me the run down today. Bike starts at $25,200.00 as well.

Here's the breakdown:

I agree with Rob regarding quality and the attitude of the MOCO... I have 2 HDs, most likely my last.  I am loyal to motorcycle riding,  not a brand.   The BMW is an impressive machine, the only thing (IMO) lacking in a BMW is a dealer network... comparing Harley's network to BMWs (and Honda's) is like comparing a Yugo to a Buick Park Avenue....

If BMW only had a CVO model - would we see a lot of 'converts'  ?? My wife and i test rode a BMW K1200LT last sumeer and we both like the bike.  The older we get the more sense it makes to do a ""switch-a-rue'''  Shall we start a CVOBMW.com site ???  ;D

Where to start…….

I picked the beemer up on Tuesday. Rode it 100+ miles home, mostly on the interstate.

Since then I have put another 134 miles on her.  Some in town, one up with the trunk on. Some in town, One up without the trunk on. The rest today with my girl on the back on a two lane road thru the forest.

Thoughts: …….”It’s different”. When asked what I think about the bike from friends and others, this seems to be my response most of the time.  The bike is sleek, sexy, full of massive amounts of torque and smooth, heatless riding. The adjustable windshield is nice. The balance of the bike is very nice. It corners like a dream. Like a dream….really.

Today we took the beemer together and rode it about 80 miles total to a lunch destination and back. My wife isn’t wild about the bike. She hates the sound and the jury is still out on the wind. She sits WAY higher on this seat/bike than on our RG Ultra so even with the adjustable shield, she still catches a lot more wind than me.

The ride over was blah. The ride back was better. I think we were riding into the wind on the way over. With it on the way back.

When we got home, we switched bikes (jumped on the RG) and headed back out to run some work errands. The one thing that was going thru my mind after heading out on the RG was “The beemer sure makes me appreciate this bike more”. It just fits us like an old shoe. Not to take anything away from the BMW. It is one magnificent piece of machinery.  They are just different. My body fits better on a Harley. I like the sound better. I love the seating position better. Way better. I even like the stereo better. Way better.

The beemer made me realize how far behind in technology Harley really is. The clutch, torque, throttle response and especially the corning were all way better on the BMW. However, the seating position, even though it was changed a lot on the beemer (lower seat, pegs further forward and handlebars further back to the rider), is not for me at this time. I am getting used to it just like I had to get used to my Harley. But Harley fits me better at this time.

I say at this time because with each day and each mile I add to the beemer, I get more accustomed to it. I shift better. My butt rides farther without needing an adjustment (and it's only been three days). However, the speakers need a serious upgrade.

The beemer is true German engineering. Everything just works. I can take the trunk off in less than a minute. I can put it back on in less than a minute (and that was the very first time). The bike looks beautiful with the bags and trunk on or just the trunk off or the bags and trunk off. Well thought out (or engineered).

The adjustable ride. You can set it for one up, or one up with luggage or two up. Then throw in to each of those, "Comfort", "Normal" and "Sport". Today when I was waiting on my wife to come out and get on, I changed the setting from one up to two up. I immediately felt the bike starting to rise. It rides very smooth compared to my Harley.

Will I keep the beemer. Yes. For now. The thing I like about it is… “it’s different”.

Rob, glad you like the Beemer but acknowledge the pros and cons.  When asked by friends a comparison I've come up with this analogy: the Wing/BMW is like a sports car smooth and sleek, but the CVO is a Street Rod, ethereal and feels more in touch with the road. (Like grinding with our lady out on the dance floor!)  I enjoy riding the CVO much more than the Wing, but it took some getting used to.  A neighbor who has a BMW LT, said the other day my CVO is "one of the best looking bikes he's ever seen".  I have to agree, they are SEX on two wheels.

Nice for you to be able to enjoy the best of both worlds...congrats! :2vrolijk_21:
