It would be very rare that I try to go to neutral at a red light.  Leaves you less reaction time if something happens and you need to move quick.

1st guess would be clutch adjustment, 2nd would be the auto tensioner ratcheted too tight, 3rd would be compensator, if you have other problems as well.

Change the tranny and the primary fluids after a good run and while it's still hot.  You'll be surprised at how much grit comes out.  It should shift like "butta" and you can find neutral easily.

If it doesn't then go to adjustments.

Six new HDs since 2003. Including 2 CVOs. They all were a pain in the A$$ to find neutral. You may find yours is "normal".
Just my experience.

Redline Shockproof in the transmission makes a HUGE difference...or did with mine, at least.

Change the fluids before you do anything else and be surprised.

FWIW: I use HD Formula+ in both the tranny and the primary with HD SYS-3 in the crankcase.
I'll move over to Mobil 1 when my SYN-3 suppy is gone.

Separate from the question asked but as suggested above it worries me a bit whenever I see a bike sitting in neutral at a light (or anywhere around traffic).  Same thing when you watch some guys wait and dump all the gears down at once close to a light or stop sign rather than downshifting during deceleration in a way that lets you be ready to take off again if you need to.

Sure, the left hand may want a break at that light.  But it's worthwhile to be able to take off if you need to.

Which Shockproof do you run? 75W90, 75W140 or 75W250?  Or do you run the V-Twin Oil with Shockproof?  Thanks.

They have a kit you can buy which includes all oils.  See below.

Think you'll find this is the most common Redline product being used in the gear boxes:

I bought my "kit" here the first time I switched the bike over to Redline products   http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/product/RedLineOilBigTwin20W50Powerpack/Red_Line_Motorcycle_Oil_Powerpacks

Same price as your link, but they have other stuff as well...like K&N Chrome filters, etc.  If you get the "kit" for a newer bike, you'll need to add a quart of the Primary Case oil to the order...it takes a bit more than one quart in the 110.  It's all good stuff.  If you don't use any of their other product, use the Transmission oil (the "Vtwin with Shockproof" is the same product as linked above).  Once you see it, you'll understand why it's better...stickiest stuff I've ever seen...it literally clings to the gears, and it's pink, so if something is leaking, you'll be able to tell whether it's the tranny or not, without a doubt.  Even a lot of the HD dealers are carrying the tranny product.

I'll agree with you there, Don...even if I don't use the engine for braking, I'm putting it in the appropriate gear as I slow down.  My bike rarely sits in neutral at lights...the only exception is if I'm REALLY stuck in traffic, with a line of cars both behind and in front of me, and then it's just for a few seconds if I have to adjust something on my clothing/helmet, etc.  I try to always stay ready to at least attempt to get the f out of the way if something starts happening around me.

It's just one of those "what if" things TC.  Hopefully won't ever make a difference.  One time in my life I'm not sure if it did or not.  But it was close enough to need a diaper change.

Was sitting at a stop light with nothing behind me (always hate that).  In the mirror saw a Dodge Charger coming what seemed too quickly.  I quickly slid up beside the car in front of me and heard the Dodge lock his brakes.  He slid close enough to the car in front of me that he might have tagged me in the rear.  I was never sure.  But the timing was close enough I was glad I didn't have to grab a gear first and had just quickly scooted up.
