The second tether idea seems like overengineering.  2 cables instead of one to get tangled or in the way.  Plus unless you drill and mount a second bracket for the second tether you've still got the weak point at the pivot screw, which if that fails will let both cables go at the same time.

Love my Ultrabrace. Would never go back to a tether. Allows the lid to be opened with one hand. It does open at least 90 degrees but not as far as the tether which I view as a good thing. When bikes are parked close together, opening the lid with the tether puts the lid in harms way for someone to bump into it. With the Ultrabarce, the lid doesn't impede walking between closely parked bikes when its open.

Heatwave...do you have a liner in the Tour-Pak?  If so, does it close okay with the liner in it?

Thanks,
Randy

Yes, The SE Ultra comes with the felt lid and bottom liner. There's no interference at all with the Ultrabrace. If you decide to install it, don't forget the loctite on all bolt/nuts and screws.

Sledge, I appeciate the input, but I was talking about the tether breaking. Still same amount of weight on bolts, and if you throw a few small zip  ties on the tethers they will stay together and won't tangle. Don't get me wrong I like the idea of the brace, but it also has bolts on the inside, and you have to drill a total of 8 more  holes in your tourpak and have that extra plate showing on the side of the tourpak. That is the biggest reason I would avoid the using the bracket. Just my opinion. Always appreciate your input. CAHDBIKER

Thanks for the quick reply...I watched the installation video and it's pretty simple and straight forward.  I will probably be ordering one over the next day or two.  Also will use loctite during the install.

You'll definitely need to drill 8 holes but I didn't find that to be an issue. The Ultrabrace bracket plates are hidden behind the passenger backrest and shouldn't be visible once they are installed.

I've never had a tp lid self destruct on me and have only had the wire and typical setup.  All I ever had on the top of my old bike was the paint to match airwing led spoiler, no rack so never a lot of weight.

I still think I'll get a brace but for now I need a tp detach kit, the wire harness, and a couple other items.  Plus I still have to install my motolights, batt tender pigtail, oil temp guage and sensor.

I ask my wife why she loves shopping for new clothes when there ain't a millimeter of space in either of her 2 walk-in closets and nothing over a couple years old.  I already know.  With them it's clothes, with us it's the bike.  It's a sickness and we got it as bad as the ladies do. 8)

Happened Friday night.  Service Manager was off on Saturday.  I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Man - doesn't my wife know THAT! I spend a TON more on this bike than she does on clothes and just about everything else combined. Just ordered a RoadTech 665, fairing mount, NIM, and saddlebag spoilers last night from Surdyke to prove it! And the Screamin' Eagle shift linkage and that Screamin' Eagle metal emblem that I got on here are on their way, too. Oh yeah, and a 137 dB air horn in a chrome ball of flames! Probably some other stuff on the way I can't even remember ordering, too.

I tell her it's still cheaper and less of a hassle than a Mistress would be tho... or Heaven Forbid, GOLF!!! So far she's buyin' it... but she doesn't see the bills... :drink:

GOLF!!?!  MAn yer sick!!  Hoo in their right mind would spend all day hitting a little white ball far away with a stick only to chase it down and hit it away again?  And carry a big heavy bag of extra sticks to boot, AND ride around in a cute little cart, AND wear golf shorts and goofy shoes with little spikes in them?  AND pay big bux to do it all?

Not me, Man... NEVER! That was a joke. I have never understood why people would want to spend all the time and money to play that silly game, when they COULD be out RIDING!  :bananarock:

Service Manager liked patting himself on the back for something that was under warranty anyway.  ;D  Glad to see they stepped up.
