Why does Harley not have to send out notices to owners with recall issues akin to what the major auto manufacturers do?  Saves them a ton of money not doing it of course.  But why is HDI immune?

I got one for the brake line recall on mine...still haven't had it done...but I did get a letter in the mail from em.

They aren't immune - they are required to notify owners of safety or emissions related recalls just like the auto folks.  As to why they don't, that's a deep subject related to all the other "why's" we all ask about H-D and the stupid things they do.  Of course, it could be as simple as the dealer not providing the proper name and address when they report the retail sale to the MoCo.

I think the notice may be forthcoming. I have received them on prior recalls from HD.  I just went to my HD dlr and they just got in the first two (2) repair pieces.  They have about 20 people on the recall list.

It involves "all" touring models with the center pin lock/ignition.  The service writer looked at the piece with me and it does not change the key assembly only the mechanism, so while you should take your key so they can test it, you will keep your same keys.

Had the 5k service done on bike yesterday.   The service department also did the service bulletin for the fork lock as well.  I did not get a letter in the mail from HD about it.

It is called,  Fork Lock Product Program 0900 - Bulletin M1190 for the ign switch.  New ign switch is P/N 94462.

The tech told me it is NOT a fault with the ignition switch (electrical ) portion,  it is a problem with only the fork lock position.   The way it was explained to me is the older touring models one could lock the ign switch and then rotate to the fork lock position.  The 06 SEUC ign switch needs to be rotated  to fork lock position and pushed down while using key to lock.  Probably not explaining this well,  but for those who have/ had an older model bagger this might be understandable. (?)   Got the impression from the tech that he felt some of the fork locks were breaking from the bike owners using the wrong locking method.  Anyhow,  HD is addressing the issue by replacing the ign switch with a different locking mechanism.

My SEUC is only my third Harley and my first bagger,  so I can only pass on what the service tech told me.

And as already mentioned, ......  BRING YOUR KEY  when you get the switch replaced.   Yes, you keep the same key also.

I went to my local dealer today and asked about the recall on my bike for the ignition switch. They wanted to know if I got the card or letter from the MOCO about it and I showed them the computer printout with my vin# and stating it was affected. The dealer then asked me to wait for the offical card since the dealer did not have in the repair kit yet.
They said it would not affect the safe operation of the bike to keep running as is until I get proper notice and they get the parts needed.

Received letter today. Not a recall. It's on all FLH models with fork mounted switch.

Dealer told me this was not a "recall" since not safety related.  Don't know how they plan to notify us.  According to him "all" that would happen is that you could not unlock your ignition.  Well, chit, aint' that a kick in the head.

How is this NOT  safety related ?? , any of us that have ever went into a bar and unknowingly hit on the girl that was with the big guy with patches on the back of his vest that match the other half dozen or so vests on his buddies vest's that are also there, knows this is absolutely false

Got my notice in the mail yesterday. Says it will reduce complexity of operation and reduce potential damage from misuse, but is not a safety issue.
