I got my letter today. It is not a recall. They say they are doing this "In the interest of customer satisfaction". Doesn't that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Definitely "fuzzy".  Speaking of "customer satisfaction" programs, I just received a letter from the MoCo about replacing the Tour-Pak light on my '05 SEEG.  Seems the original cheapo lights had a tendency to stick in the "on" position and kill the battery.  No chit, sherlock. Mine did that shortly after purchase, which was about 15 months ago (this was an issue that was widely discussed on this site back then also).  After diagnosing the cause of the dead battery, I first rigged up a mechanical switch to bypass the defective gravity switch in the light, and then eventually convinced the dealer to replace the whole thing with the new LED version.  I love how it takes the MoCo over a year to address this issue, while folks are still running around with defective lights which can kill their battery at any time.  I get a "warm and fuzzy" feeling every time I think of all the stuff the MoCo hasn't notified us about, like the high failure rate for cam chain tensioners for which they still don't have a scheduled maintenance interval or fix, or lord knows how many other things that can leave us stranded.

BTW - I heard the ignition switch issue had to do with the fork lock portion of the switch, so at least this one shouldn't leave you stranded.  Of course, if the bike is rolled off and stolen because the lock didn't work, it's no big deal - the MoCo will happily sell you another one. ;)

I got my letter yesterday afternoon in the regular mail...I called the dealer and they said the parts are in. All they are going to do is change the guts out on the lock and install the same chrome piece back on the bike. I am going to have mine done when my new paint gets in.

Mines in the shop right now. Left rear shock leaked all the oil out so they ordered a new shock. Also, I figure my motor mount is bad as I can feel it make contact through the floorboards anytime I hit a small bump.  I called today, they said the MM is OK.  Bullsh!t.  First 4K miles and last 2K are totally different. So today I called as I recieved the letter about the ign and thought they could fix it while it's there. NADA.  Said he needs the letter and the parts aren't in stock anyway.  So much for great customer service.

I hear a small "clank" sometimes when I hit a bump.  Always thought it was the kick stand.  Would a bad M/M do that?

Polecat,

Others that have reported a similar feel have had theirs replaced. I not only hear mine, I feel it. I've also had to grind away some material from the front header heatshield and the brake lever because of contact. First 4K miles there was close to 1/4" of clearance between them. This is not the selling dealer and the pipes are V&H, so that gives them a reason to say it doesn't work. We're doing another Arkansas trip next week, so maybe when I return I'll take it to the selling dealer.  2 to 3 hr round trip and lots of traffic congestion.

Thanks GC_Super,

I do all my trading with my "home dealer" except for this bike (they sold their allottment except for the one the owner kept).  They don't treat me any different than if I had bought it there.  Great bunch!

I will go down there tomorrow and have them check it out. Give me an excuce to buy some chrome! [smiley=jalapeno.gif]

Had my bike in for a cold start issue and while it was in the shop dealer replaced internal ignition lock I was told that it
was a recall from the moco that if you lock the wheel in the turned position and then check to make sure the wheel is locked by trying to turn it after you lock it it will jam and becomes impossible to unlock or turn the wheel. Mine was replaced at no charge and was written up as a recall on the sevice slip

My dealer called me and told me of the recall. What happens is the pins for the fork lock will break off and the forks will stay in the locked position. Took about 1.5 hours to fix. It is much smoother now than before the fix. Check with your dealer about the availability of parts. My dealer only had 3 on hand with 30 more on backorder for 30 days.
