Military Retirement Ride
« on: December 06, 2011, 05:34:28 PM »

Retiring from the Army at the end of Dec after 23 years.  I'm going to take some time off and get to know my bike a little better and I am looking for that "epic" ride to remember.  I thinking of taking 30 days or so in the spring/summer to just ride leaving (and returing) from San Antonio TX.  How about some suggestions and/or pitures to get my jucies flowing.

Wow, talk about an open ended question.  How far are you willing to travel.  :nixweiss:

I know hundreds of great roads and I've only ridden in about 28 states.  How about an area of the country you'd like to check out, then we can suggest something for that area..   Are you looking for the roads alone, or the scenery too?

Oh, and I forgot..  Thank you for your service.   :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks backroad mike.  It's meant to be an open ended question.  I'm looking for nice casual riding with great scenery anywhere in the lower 48 states  :)

the north coast.....  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=63955.0

the gold country....Hwy. 49......   http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=59545.0

Napa Valley, the redwoods and the Lost Coast........   http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=56199.0

More gold country....Mosquito Ridge Rd......  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=51605.0

and we can't forget about Yosemite.....   http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=50644.0

and Mt. Lassen......  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=50136.0

OUTSTANDING JCZ :2vrolijk_21:  Thanks for taking time to list those threads.  Terrie was in several pics-did she ever own a 2010 Tequila Sunrise SESG?  I swear I seen her pic on another thread with the tequila bike.

Not trying to P on your parade but............You could easily spend a month in any quarter of this great Country and not take the same ride! If it were me I would pick the section I had been to the least and let the scooter eat the pavement!!!! As has already been said if you wind up in Western NC, give me a heads up. I have rode all over and if I could only pick one part, Hwy 1 on the Left Coast and the great North West would win. Good luck and thanks for your service!!

Yep, you saw the picture somewhere on this forum.  That's her on the bike that she'd "like to own". :huepfenlol2:  It was taken at the dealership.  She's pushing 50k miles on her 09 Street Glide. :2vrolijk_21:

By the way, if your journey brings you to the west coast, be sure to let us know?  A lot of members on this forum from California and we all love to ride!

Head on up to Colorado, you can't go wrong there.

Did southern Colorado last spring for 4 days - http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=64967.0;all

Did the Big Horns in WY, Yellowstone, the Tetons, and northern Colorado just after Bike Week. The ride from Steamboat Springs to Loveland through Rocky Mountain National Park is one of the most beautiful in the country.

A week in the Black Hills is always nice too.

Pick a direction and twist the throttle!

thanks folks!  One ride I am doing with the THCC Hog Chapter is Rolling Thunder in DC.  My wife rides too and we look to have a great time-about a 10 day trip planned.  Mid to later summer I'm looking to head west out of San Antonio and end up in Vegas to spend time with my brother who retired from the Air Force and is now a LV Metro policeman.  I'f I'm near any of you guys I'll be sure to look you up  :2vrolijk_21:

It might be cliche, but my favorite riding is in east TN/west NC. VA, west MD, and PA are beautiful aswell, plenty of room to get lost and enjoy every mile. Sadly, from where we are at, it takes a while going west to get into some nice spots, so if you want distance, head out to CA and up to OR. My family mostly lives in Northern CA and OR, endless roads and beautiful!
