My fuel guage consists of the "A" tripmeter since the guage is pretty much useless.  Says full until about 130 miles on the tank then drops like a rock (and yes, it fogs up)...

Second best gauge on the bike next to the "rain gauge", MoCo and gauges just don't mix.

The should spend the extra $10.00 to get the "good" grade gauges rather than the entry level of quality they currently supply.

Just like the rest my fuel gauge reads marginal at best and has fogged ever since i can remember. I just assumed they all did that (as it appears they do). Has anyone on the site changed out their gauges for aftermarket? Something like this...

I had a bike I built up a few years back with the HD Fairing on it....used VDO Marine Gauges and guess what.....they fogged up also.  Although on my '06 the gauge has yet to fog (18K miles) and is damn near accurate.....it takes just under 3 gallons to fill up at half tank and when my light comes on I'm almost right at 1 gallon left (+/- a tenth)......alot more accurate than my '04 was....that light came on and you'd better be sitting at a gas station already.

My fuel light comes on at the one gallon mark also. My buds comes on at the 1 1/2 +/- gallon mark. That is annoying as he stops immediately and I know I still have another 50/60 miles in my bike. The fog is something I never gave any thought to, until now! :)

Eqcons, my gas gauge does not even come close to working, but lately it has started to fog up as well.  23000 miles, no fog, now fog.  I guess it was inevitable.  But I am not complaining either.  I've learned what I can live with and what I can live without working and am a very happy CVO rider with what I have right now.

Oh, I'm sure mine will fog up eventually, just like all the others I've ever had, Mrs WeCVO!  ;)

Even when my '04 fogged up it was gone in 1/2 an hour so of riding........on a trip to Memphis a couple months (or so) ago a friend and I had our lights come on within 4 miles of each other every time.....his (regular '06 Ultra) later than mine and he'd always take .2 gallons more than me.  So his was a little on the light side of having a full gallon left with the light on........

Well I guess my gage works o.k. I mean it shows full when I fill up and empty when its empty.
But what I have trouble understanding is why I get great gas milage  from the top half of the tank (140 mi.) and such poor milage from the bottom half(25 mi.)?   :-/
I have no fogging yet 5400 mi. and caught in fair share of rain.

You guys are killing me... ;D

Mine works about the same 2/3 of the miles come from full to half.  But the key is it is very consistent.  When the light comes on I am at 1/4 tank and I put in between 3.9 and 4.0 gallons.  Once you get the drill, it is no problem.  If it were different every time, then the games would begin.

Right you are. Consistency is key here. :)

Must be speeding up to make it to the gas station before you run out?   ::)

Actually, most of the gauges work similar to yours, only not quite as non-linear.  Before I modified mine, I would also get about 140 miles by the time the gauge hit 1/2, and if I stretched it to almost empty (5 gallons to fill) I would show approximately 180 - 190 miles with the gauge still sitting above 1/8 and the light just coming on.  Now mine hits 3/4 at approximately 60 miles, 1/2 at 100 - 105 miles, 1/4 at 140 - 150 miles, and the light comes on at 3/16 (1.0 gallon remaining).  It still sits at full for the first 50 miles, then drops suddenly to 3/4.  As long as it is reasonably accurate on the second half, that's all that matters to me.  At least it is consistent, so now I have no qualms about leaving the odometer set on total mileage rather than the trip mileage, and just going by the gauge.  When it hits 1/4, it's going to take approximately 4 gallons to fill (5.4 gallons is total capacity, from bone dry to the little holes in the filler neck).

Sorry about the coffee in the nostrils. Just havin a little fun. ;)
I've gotten used to the way the gage works, when I'm traveling I just look at the half way mark as though I'm hitting reserve and start looking for gas. In town day to day riding the biggest problem I have is remembering to LOOK at the gage.
