Replacing Mirrors
« on: December 18, 2011, 11:00:21 AM »

A question for those of you who have replaced your stock mirrors and gone to handle bar mounted mirrors --- what did you plug the hole in your inner fairing with or did you replace the inner fairing?

Thanks for your response.

They make plastic plugs that you get from your Harley Dealer.

Kuryakn also has some hole plugs.  Not my style, but just sayin.

I traded fairings.....had to have it painted anyway, so it was a no brainer for me. :nixweiss:

Yaffe has some called Bagga Chips that look good. They come in chrome or black. Much better looking than the Kury ones which look like crap in my opinion. They are about $90 though and that is a lot for two pieces of aluminum!

I asked a parts guy at HD in Kennewick Wa and he was unaware of any lugs that Harley makes.I was looking at the Yaffe ones but will wait until early next year to swap out bars. I was thinking going with the Yaffe 10" bars. Been trying to find out from anyone if the 10's and or 12's sit taller than the top of the fairing, and if you need to get longer cables for the 10"s.

I've got the 12" Yaffee Monkey bars and they sit about 2" above the faring and the clutch and brake cables were replaced with longer cables.

And he probably still works there.  Typical for a dealership. :confused5:

Thanks Richasa I'll probly go with the 10's. Did you keep the fairing mount mirrors? Or do the bars make them useless? Thanks again. ;D

Really another dumb ass idea from the motor company.  They sell the fairing mounted morrors for anyone that would want them. Why couldn't they leave handle bar mounted mirrors as stock and sell the fairng mount type as an option.   Leave it to them to keep the bonehead ideas coming.  :nixweiss:

if you want your hands below the top of the fairing you would have to go with the 10's. I have to say i love the 12's, very comfortable for me. The fairing mount mirrors will not work with my set up.

That's one of the styling cues that makes the Street Glide recognizeable.  If you want a bat-wing fairing bike with standard handlebar mounted mirrors, you buy the electra glide.  Trust me, it's cheaper to buy new mirrors than turn an electra glide into a street glide.  Personally, I like the fairing mounted mirrors and how they look.  I don't think it was a bonehead idea at all.  :nixweiss:

Wouldn't it be nice to have a choice if you don't want the holes?   That's all I was meaning.
