I-Pod Interface Installed Low Volume form I-Pod???
« on: January 02, 2012, 11:08:07 PM »

I have read a few post of others having the problem of having lower volume on there IPod than there CD or radio, but the only fix I read was to increase the song volume on the play list. Trying to keep my HK head unit on the bike. I have the HD IPod interface running the IPod in the saddle bag using the connection in the bottom of the IPod. Seems that when the IPod is plugged into a 3rd party device it automatically sets the volume at 50%. Is there a way to over ride this on the IPod? Or whats the fix?
    Thanks

Try turning off the check volume feature.

I hope there is a solution for this, I ordered the iPod Interface Kit and am hoping it works fine for me.  I had a similar issue when I installed the XM module, the volume was much lower than the radio and CD's.  I never did find a solution for it and discontinued the XM service.  Any advice?

There have been many reports regarding the HD iPod module and low volume.
The HDPDPLUS iPod module  ( http://www.ironcrossaudio.com/ipod-harleydavidsonradio.html )
has a higher  audio output resulting in no loss of volume.
If you have the HD module, be sure the software is up to day.

I didn't read all the replies, but I had the same problem when I installed the unit on my 2010.   You need to re-check the dins and make sure they aren't damaged and seated properly.  I grabbed a plastic toothpick and pushed the pin to seat it properly.  I assume you had the correct wiring configuration?

I added (wish I'd known about yours first!) the HD iPod kit to my 09, and it works after a fashion (firmware is pretty crap!), but I also use the original HD 76408-06 Bluetooth module, and since installing the iPod kit, I get the strong feeling that the volume of incoming phone calls is significantly lower.  Am I imagining that, and if not, would your kit fix the problem?

My iPod volume is fine - it's the phone volume that has suffered!  :confused5:

Yes, I have the volume up on my 16gig square Nano. It seems like when I plug it in to the cable in the saddle bag that it defaults to half volume. I have a suspicion that it is the way the IPod works. I will try my wife's old version Nano (same size as the HD issue IPod) maybe hers is different. I fear long term I may either be sending my system to Iron Cross (if theres a fix) or going thru all the expense of a new aftermarket radio that has XM & IPod built in. My Xm also has a lower volume than the FM & CD. Bummer, since 95% of the time I listen to the IPod or Xm. Oping some has a fix. The other day I went thru my I Tunes and Increased the playback to +100% on everything and then resync'd my IPod. It may be louder now but in my mind not a final solution. Fortunately I have (4) 6.5" speakers (vented lowers) with a 4 channel Hawg Wired system so it is tolerable but not perfect.

Mine is a 16GB 5th generation Nano - as I say the volume is not a problem with it.  HD's firmware sucks though.  If I turn my bike off, it doesn't start playing again automatically, and I have to fiddle with the soft buttons to make it start to play, whereupon it always goes right back to the first track.  (Another reason why I'm hoping the Iron Cross one might be better - still waiting for Iron Cross to reply to my message above, as you can see...)

Have to be honest, we did not test the ipod module with the bluetooth module in the system. The bluetooth module has been discontinued for so long we just dont consider it anymore.

That being said, there should be no way that the installation of the ipod module would affect the volume of the hand free module.

The HDPD module will start where you left off either when you shut off the bike or switch from another audio source.

Thanks IC - I'm pretty certain it does, for some reason, unforch. when connecting it, two of the wires are not used when the BT module exists, as it already has connections to them.   Such a shame they discontinued the BT module, as it's 1000 times better than using the Garmin BT.

If you want somebody to test your ipod module with the BT, I'll be your guinea pig!  :D

IC, I'm really getting to hate the crappy firmware on the HD Ipod kit.  It's driving me crazy.

Can we establish, by any means, whether your kit will work with the HD Bluetooth module?  (Yes, again, I know it's long discontinued, but a lot of people are still using them, me included, as they are MILES better than the Garmin solution.)

Audio inputs are separate from the Bluetooth module and the CAN data BUS will run in parallel, so there will be no issue with the HDPDPLUS2 connecting to your system
