dent repair
« on: January 03, 2012, 08:37:16 AM »

Have a very slight ding in the front fender.  Anyone have any good/bad experience with those do it yourself dent repair kits?

Suggestion: call a dent wizard or similar company to do it.  It will cost $30-$50 but it will be done right.   I run a car dealership and a good ding repair guy can do amazing work.  Just a suggestion ?

I agree, rather than try it yourself call a pro.  Not just anyone can do real paintless dent removal, it takes a real touch and a thorough understanding of how metal stretches and responds.  Doing it the wrong way will guarantee a major repair or replacement to follow.

I spent more than a few years managing repair people in auto assembly plants, and over the years I had two guys who could work out dents that everyone else said were unrepairable without either breaking the paint or replacing the part.  I used to get a kick out of bringing some of those same folks out and asking them to find the original dent after either of these guys got finished.  No one ever did.  But as I said, it takes real talent, almost like an artist, and doing it yourself isn't likely to result in a great outcome.

There should be listings locally for Paintless Dent Removal, Dent Doctors, etc.  Check with some local auto dealerships on who they use and recommend.

X2 on calling a pro dent guy.  I had them massage out a door ding and and you'd never know it now.  Also was on a ride with a guy that had a dent in his fender and it was massaged out...couldn't even tell where it had been damaged.

X3

I had a dent guy fix a golf ball dent in my wifes black CTS and you couldn't tell it was ever there.

It was essentially a shanked line drive off of the tee box at 75 yards to impact. So it was deep and really smoking when it hit.

I think the experts would agree that the results come out better if you get it fixed right away.

Good luck.

I had a dent in my 1997 Fatboy front fender and the local paintless dent repair company said they could repair cars/trucks due to thinner metal but they couldn't do a Harley Fender due the thicker metal.
Good luck and hope your local repair people can fix it.

I've already had a dent in my rear fender repaired by pdr & it was a non-issue..

I would have thought a HD fender was thinner than vehicle sheet metal.  Seems that was on the Road Kings and SG I've owned.

Not sure about a fender, but a friend of mine had a dent the size of a quarter on his gas tank and our dent guy had it out and fixed inside 10 minutes and you couldn't ever tell it was damaged.  You have to find someone that knows their chit!  Motorcycles have a lot of clear coat.

Had one removed on front fender on my street glide, can't tell it was ever there. Check with your local car dealers and see who they use, just a thought.
