OVER MSRP!   Never have and never will.  No one should ever pay over MSRP, all you are doing is impowering the dealers to do it.  If no one would pay it, it would not happen. 
Sometimes you have to do a little work, location and timing can mean a lot.  I bought my 2011.5 SEUC for $2500.00 under MSRP.  Buying on impulse can be fun but it will usually cost you.  OK.... I feel better now.

I bought my 2012 SESG at the end of August for MSRP at H-D of Macon, over the phone, and picked it up the next day. I paid no set-up fee, and a flat $250 doc fee and freight - plus sales tax of course. They had just gotten the bike from another dealer the same day I called them, to whom they had traded a 2012 Maple Metallic SERG that had sat on their floor for three weeks. My bike never hit their floor.

I still have not seen another FLHXSE3 of any color on the road here - exempt for PASN YU's Ruby Red, the day we took the Shootout pictures back in Sept.

Last time I checked my local stealer had just regular bikes priced at about $1,296.00 over MSRP. The only CVO that I have seen there was a '12SEUC that was sold to someone in GA. I do not remember the price they had on it but I am pretty sure it was over MSRP.

I'll just offer my usual blunt assessment of the situtation:  Anyone who pays over MSRP, especially in the current economy, is a certifiable idiot and should seek immediate professional help.  Paying too much just because you have too much money for your own good, or you have too much credit, may have been a way to impress other easily impressed fools back before all the bubbles burst.  Now it's just pathetic.  Rather than give your excess money to the crooks from Harley, give it to charity or a local animal shelter.

Clink on above link.  Look at the CVO markup.  The dealer is doing just fine.

These prices confirm what a buddy of mine told me.  He is the comptroller at a large Harley dealer in Arizona.  He told me that the standard markup for a bike is around 20%.

Just thinking about the last post. If the dealer makes 20% mark up on a cvo bike, I see nothing wrong with that.  They have the overhead and I think that is fair all around.  They only get so many of these a year to sell anyway. I own my own business and to stay in business you have to make at least that. I like fair and treating the customer fair is win-win all around. If they lose money and customers they get added ro AJ's list. If they do it for nothing, why would they want to give us any kind of good service? In other words the dealer has to live too. Reading about hammering the dealer right down to the bottom does nothing for me. I'm told that my break even point is 18%. I'm sure theirs has to be the same or close to that.  So at 20- I am sure they are looking for customers to come buy parts and have their bikes serviced there too.  Just some thoughts on the situation...

I don't think anyone on this site doesn't understand that the dealer has overhead.  It's the charging over MSRP.  The MSRP is set high enough for any compintant dealer to make a very good living.  As far as hammering the dealer.... I don't know of a single dealer that doesn't know how to say no to a deal.  Sometimes selling a bike at a $2000 margin vs $5000 is acceptable to the dealer because they know they will make it up by future sales, service, and referrals Heck sometimes they are willing to move on a price just to increase their allocation of bikes from Harley. Just some more thoughts.

Those are very good thoughts I think.,..  i just bought a new bike 2 weeks ago,,  I called all over Florida, One dealer, a small one, had the bike I wanted,, I called him amd odfeered MSRP plus a little frt and set up.   that was 600.  I would never pay over msrp but i knew that they had the add ons, so I just gave into that..  I didnt even try to beat him up over it.  It was the only one within 500 miles from me and he even knew it.  he had every dealer I called asking him for it. So I thoght I got treated pretty good,  That guy will never see a dimes worth of service from me also..  Not one oill change or even a tire..  So he made the sale and said goodbye to that bike forever.   Mt thoughts too.

That, does seem to explain a lot about my local dealer...everything is ABOVE MSRP. It's just an attempt to make up for some shortcomings.

I agree.  I have no problem with a dealer making a profit. They have to, to stay in business.  There is overhead and expenses.  I get that too. But, IMHO I think over MSRP is going a little too far.  I also get it that a certain model maybe in demand but I personally still wont pay over MSRP.  The link I posted was just really to give the members hear a tool to use and see what the margins are.  Not just on a HD but perhaps another brand and model of product they maybe in the market for. hope it helps

I see some things have not changed, except the Mark up is about 1,200 less than in Sept 2002, last time I stepped foot in the door there.

The are the closest Dealer to me, and have not been in since they insulted me Sept 2002.  I have bought 8 new bikes since then.

Asked just that at the dealer above on an 03 Fatboy, Silver and Black new on the floor with a 24K price tag.  Asked the sales guy what he could do, he flipped the tag so I could see the 24K price, and said "Can't you read"  My reply was sure can, and the HD web site says MSRP is more than 5K less than that.  You just lost my business for ever.  Sent the Store GM a Certified letter about it when I got home.  I lived up to my word, until some one else ones the store I will not buy anything there.
