Vane and Hines dresser duals
« on: January 07, 2012, 09:45:06 AM »

I have a couple of questions. First off I called the dealership to schedule a tune after the install and he tells me do not expect much that is the worst set up possible and the power may go down I have to believe that is BS. I installed VH dresser duals and boom can mufflers because I like the looks but was hoping for some performance gain as well. First question does anyone have this set up and the results?  Second question is it the headpipe or the mufflers that make the most difference?

I have read many threads here that say the 2-1-2 or X pipe setup yeilds better numbers on the dyno than a true dual system. You will also find a 2-1 will yield better numbers. That does not make what you have bad. many are running the true duals. It will come down to how much of a performance buff you are? If your dyno racing get the x pipe. If you just like a good seat of the pants feel I think you can get that with the true dual pipe. Good luck!

By the way if you ordered direct from V&H I am sure they will exchange them if you want the X pipe. I know because I had dresser duals and read about the X pipe and returned mine. Still in the box should not be a problem.

I love my boom cans! I get allot of compliments on them. I often find people lingering around me waiting for me to start my bike! People look at that huge pipe and expect them to be super loud. They are not near as loud as they look. I think its a good sound and a quick blip of the throttle lets cell phone cagers know I am near!!!! I have not had my bike on a dyno. I am running fulsac stage II except the mufflers. The plugs look good and the seat of the pants smile factor is great! My local HD shop mechanic likes my setup so much they called me at home the other day to inquire about my cams, map etc... for another CVO customer. My mechanic told me my bike is the best setup he has ridden for a mild hopup!!!!

You will lose a considerable amount of torque on the bottom end.  Been there, dyno'd that.

I put on the V&H Dresser Duals with Monster Rounds -- love the sound, performance is great - don't notice any real loss in low end torque - but see a definite increase in high end torque

Unless you have before and after dyno sheets, I am willing to bet that the bike is lagging on the bottom end than feels like it hits harded later in the rpms. It's simply a matter of exhaust flow/scavenging being poor at lower rpms when you install true duals.

Hey Mike,

Everyone told me that I should go with the Power Duals, but my brother had them on his 2009 and I didn't like the look. Like you I preferred the look of the true dual.

I'm not sure what the 110 is out of the factory but I assume not so great numbers or HD would publish them all over the place. Here is my Dyno before and after proper tuning with the following parts; VH Dresser True Duals, SE Heavy Breather, Klock Werks Revolver 4", SEPST.

Before mods(Factory Spec) HP??? + TQ???
With Parts Mods but before dyno tune = 83.01HP + 100.33TQ
After tuning = 91.11HP + 111.31TQ

Over all a 10% increase for $190 bucks of labour with a Harley Tech who knows what he's doing on a Dyno.

Not only did TQincrease all the way up the RPM range but maxes at about between 3000 and 3500... Right where I want it! Not to mention it has VERY smooth roll on power and tq all the way to 4500.

Also the AFR being richened up and smoothed out cooled rear cylinder temp by 42 degrees to about 280 and dropped the front 31 to about 270.

Yes another set up may yeild better numbers, but I doubt I'd feel it in the seat of my pants plus I like the sound, the look and the driveaility of what I have.

Go with what you want and spend a couple hundred on a dyno with a good tuner and yer all set!
