New drink/cup holder idea to share
« on: January 09, 2012, 05:29:40 PM »

I thought this was a great idea, and it worked perfectly.  I hated the idea of a drink holder or bottle being on my handlebars, specifically the cruzer caddy as it loosened up.  I added the Hog Trough lower fairing doors made of ABS plastic on my CUSE5.5, drilled a hole in it, and mounted the cruzer caddy cup holder to the door and it worked out perfect.  I locked that compartment up with chit that was necessary or conventient to have but rarely used.  It was stable, easy to grab, didn't get hot or anything from the engine, and it was out of the way and I thought it looked great.  I just ordered the Hog Trough doors for my RUSE along with another cruzer caddy, yeah it's an expensive way to go, but the doors work great, their matched to my key, and I the right side is used for crap that I use more often.  ONE of the few good ideas that I had to offer....not many! :nixweiss:

I will post better pics when I rig this bike up and you will see that it looks like it belongs.

Hog trough makes a version of their doors with a cup holder already attached.

Yep I know, but in my opinion the steel wired one they sell looks like something riveted on the door.  Considering the money I spend on stuff, the extra $12 gives it a better look....my opinion?  The stem has a rubber grommet and it fits tightly though the hole I drilled.  Looks like it belongs?

Rio, Looks good. I need a drink holder for my 09SEUC, but so far haven't figured out a place that would be conveniet, but not in my way. I think yours looks like it would do the trick. CAHDBIKER

I like it. I have the same bike and have been at a loss for a cup-holder. I bought a couple of the leather bottle holders that ride on the saddle-bag guards. They were expensive but I ended up taking them off. I didn't like the way they looked......also.....it didn't keep drinks cold at all. I could have probably solved that problem but couldn't get over the fugly factor.

That does look cool. Would love to see a better pic. About the only thing I haven't done to my bike that I have been thinking about is those lower doors. Was either going to going with the locks, or the new magnetic door. Now I may do this.

Also....what horn is that on your bike? Noticed too that you had the wind splitter. Do you like it? Is that the same height as stock?

The windshield is the 12" Harley Windsplitter, I'm 5' 7" and it worked perfect for me, plus it looked great.  I got the same version for my SERGU now too.  The horn, cover, derby cover, and point cover match, Alen Ness scallop.  The drink holder idea works great.  I hate chit on my handlebars, in fact on my SERGU I will be relocating the garmin where the temp gauge is on the dash,  I used the hog trough lower fairing doors, ordered key match cylinders from HD to match my ignition key.  The cup holder is the cruzer, but this time i ordered the mesh kuryakyn.  You drill the hole, get a round rubber grommet, put the stem through, washer and bolt on the inside and its done.  Works great, out of the way, easy to get to, and if you take the time and do it right, it will look as though it goes with the bike.  I will post pics once finish it.  I just ordered the doors today and the caddy.  Probably post pics this weekend?

Here you go, picture on new scooter.  After looking at it, I think the cruzer caddy in black leather or chrome looked better?

Gawd...If I put something on the bike so I could drink while going down the road, I'd have to take wizz breaks every 75 miles instead of 150.

Rio...I think the chrome/leather version looks better than the mesh.  JMHO.  If you've got to have a drink holder on the bike, that's the best solution, IMO.  No offense to anyone, but the handlebar version looks like it belongs on a Gold Wing...
