I find this troubling on so many levels.  The LoJack suggestion is a good one, but I'm concerned about the limitation on services.

Back in '97 I had LoJack installed in a new car I bought.  Reading their material, the service was only good in the Atlanta Metro area, but once outside town around 15 miles the car would be off the grid.  It bothered me because I lived about five miles behind Stone Mountain, which put it less than five miles from the "no recover" zone.

It wouldn't take a car theif very long to be outside that range from where I lived. As a rule, we usually ride to places far outside the major metropolitan areas.  Reading their list of counties covered in California, Santa Cruz County has no coverage...so it would be worthless there or in the Santa Cruz mountains.

If you're looking at a LoJack solution, be sure to check here for coverage information: https://store.lojack.com/content.aspx?page=CurrentCoverageArea
The sales people do not make this altogeather clear when selling.  Not all of us live in the city.

It's a shame we even have to discuss this type of thing, but is a fact of life...if you have nice stuff, someone else wants it.

A pair of size 14 boots sitting outside next to the bike and a few 12 gauge shotgun casings might make em think twice! :2vrolijk_21:

Try and choose motels that have parking right outside the door to your room...at least you might hear 'em.  Lock the forks and get something like the Exigent Rain Cover that has no emblems and covers the bike all the way to the ground.  At least they can't see it when covered, and it keeps the dew off the bike.  If you have to stay in a motel/hotel that does not have parking outside your room, most of the time if you talk nicely to the folks at the front desk, they will allow you to park the bike in an out of the way place under the canopy and will keep an eye on it for you.  At least that makes it a little more difficult to take the bike.

Do what I do carry enough insurance so that if someone else wants it , they get it and I get a new one of a different color, I dont even lock the forks. Onetime in NYC we left a group of bikes in the  parking lot at the Jersey side of the Statue of Liberty. I got off the bike set the helmet on the seat EZ Pass still in the windshield pouch and walked away. A girl with our group chased me down and asked didnt you lock your bike she carried her helmet and a Backpack for the next 3-4 hours while we looked around and all. I told her it will be there when I get back and it was no new bike that trip. Life is too short to be overly concerned about losing some inanimate object, that can be replace tommorow.

Different ways of looking at it.......if I were no more attached to my scooter than that, I'd just rent one and save all the hassle.  spyder

A guy I used to ride with; his wasn't a CVO, but a very nice Harley anyway.  He had an old Goldwing cover that was in good shape, but he made the cover look ratty.  He parked it right outside his room door, of if he could get it thru the door, he took it in the room with him.

I usually cover mine, but not with CVO cover.  When I'm alone on the bike, I always get a room with outside doors and get a ground floor.  And I sleep with Mr Smith and Mr Wesson.  And I'm a very light sleeper.  So far, its worked for me.

Last year, I was in eastern CO, small town on the plains and stopped one night in a mom & pop motel.  Parked the bike right in front of the office and told him I wanted a ground floor with outside door, he just grinned.  Pop said I don't have any ground floor rooms left, but I'll cut you a break on a 2nd floor room and let you park your bike inside my garage for $5.  Parked my bike next to his '36 Plymouth sedan.   He sent me down the street to a steak house, and told me to use his name for a 20% discount.  After I ate, we then visited for 2 hrs.  One of the best evenings of the week.

If they want the bike they can have it as long as it never gets found.  That's why I pay $700 a year for insurance coverage.  I'm more afraid of the vandals or someone that messes with you bike out of spite or envy.  Those are the ones I would love to walk up and put my 9mm H&K in thier ear!!!

The alarm set automatically, and saddlebags and tour pack lock and I enjoy getting there and riding on kleave the worry for something morre impoortant. And I have rented a bike when in Vegas once the rentals have no power , even the wife commented that this aint like yours .

Heck.. I rarely lock mine... but then again.. we have a limited place for vehicels to run.. and my neighbors all have firepower...

If they want it they can have it.. the insurance will replace it... after 21 days... (that would be an eternity....)

Any of you have any recommendations for 'Replacement Value' insurance. I can find book value but have not yet found replacement value offered. Not sure if it is cost prohibitive but would like to inquire.

Thanks...
