Very cute story.
You may want to rethink the short startup times over the winter. Everything I have read and the mechanics I have talked to say that short startups is one of the worst things you can do for motor longevity. Old way of thinking was to start it up once and awhile to keep things lubed up and try to prevent rust. Now the thought is that short startups allow it to warm up slightly and the temp differences cause condensation inside that doesn't get burned off so it leaves water in oil and can promote rusting. I have been told only run motor if you can run it for 20 minutes or so and moving to get the airflow.
I hope you can get riding soon.

WoW  :-\ Thanks for the tip  :2vrolijk_21: Do you think it makes a difference if your garage is heated :nixweiss:?

It may help slightly since the temperature difference is not as great as the outside temperature but probably still not good. Think of your car/truck owners manual that mentions short trips and harsh conditions mean you should change oil more frequently. That's why many say 5,000 in town stop and go short trip miles are harder on a motor than if you did 5,000  nonstop interstate miles.

Here's a little Feb humor :P. Was out in my garage yesterday and looked over at my SG sitting there wrapped up in her winter blanket with her battery tender keeping her pulse beating, and I thought WOW ~  :pepper: I've only got 500 miles on her since I got her in August due to my mc accident and not being able to ride.  So, I pulled the blanket back and climbed on the saddle (anxious to recall that wind in your face feeling) when I decided to take it off the kickstand and turn on the ignition (mistake  :'() the alarm went off (never heard the alarm before) and it was LOUD  :nervous: !  So I proceed to run in the house and grab my keys.  Once back in the garage, she was very happy to recognize her key pacifier and she quit her screaming  :love_3:  So, since we were all quiet and happy  :1syellow1: I decided to start it up. (Another mistake  :() having 4 inch Rinehart's and a V&H X pipe, she can put out a pretty good rumble when in a confined space, especially in a garage with the door down.  She turned right over and was purring away when the security alarm on my vehicle in the next bay starts going off.  Running back in the house to get my truck keys so I could silence this screaming was becoming rather familiar to me  :pepper:  After getting the truck alarm quite and turning off my ignition on my SG, I was just starting to wrap up my little adventure with a smile  :vrolijk_4: on my face when suddenly another alarm starts screaming  :'(,  it was the CO2 monitor in the garage screaming probably from my SG exhaust since I didn't open the garage door a little to let fumes out  :-\.  I couldnt help but stand there and laugh to myself  :lolk: cause this whole alarm episode started because I just wanted to set on my scooter.  The next time I feel like climbing on the saddle, I will be prepared  :1syellow1:

Funny story and thanks for sharing.   I can totally relate.  While recuperating from my accident and not having been on my bike for months and months, I was finally out of the wheelchair.....I just wanted to sit on it.  With a shattered knee and hip that was just healing, you can imagine the site......in extreme pain and couldn't bend my leg or my knee enough to get on the normal way.  Somehow, I managed to step up on the passenger floorboard of my 04 SEEG and stand up enough to swing my leg across the riders seat.

Oh man.....I got sit down in that seat and it felt so good.  I just set there for about fifteen minutes (in excruiating pain, even though I'd already taken a couple of Norco pain pills).  How am I going to get off this thing.....I tried and tried and it occured to me that I might need to call 911 to get the fire dept. to help me off the bike. :nervous:   Somehow, I managed to finally get off of it and get back in the house.  I didn't do that again for a few more weeks.  I can totally relate to your situation......thanks for shairing. :2vrolijk_21:

Even though I have V & H pipes,  I play a Reinhart soundtrack I found on the net when I need to "sit a spell" for a mid-winter therapy session.

It helps to keep where ever you store your scoot at a constant temperature. By keeping it at a constant temp, you will reduce the possibility of moisture forming on it.

Another plus is to store your bike on something that will keep it off the concrete...rubber mat, piece of carpet....etc....keeps moisture from wicking up from the concrete

Lovemycvo, I know where your coming from.We live in the northeast and never get to ride in the winter months, but this year it has been unseasonably warm.My wife took her cvo sg for a ride on fri.Temps near 50.When she came back she had a smile from ear to ear.Its amazing how riding destresses the mind, isnt it. Wish I could have gone for a ride but recouping from a knee replacement.Soon though very soon.Fred

No problem with moisture, my concrete floor has an epoxy finish and just keeping the furnace on eliminates all moisture  ::)

JC I could just see you sitting on your scooter in pain and realizing that you couldn't get back off the darn thing without some kind of intervention  :P. Like you, my intentions were good hearted, just misplaced  :2vrolijk_21:  It's going to be a long winter  :coolblue:

Living in Northern Michigan I know this coulda been me! Last summer I set off several CO detectors even with the garage door open. On the upside, good to know they are so sensitive!

Only 8 wks till I have a long ride planned...C'mon spring!

Yea......and when Jim (hd-dude) asked for somebody to ride with him up to Reno (still on heavy pain meds) and the longest I'd been on my bike since my accident a year earlier was about twenty minutes......and I volunteer to ride with Jim.

We get to Reno and stop at a gas station.  I was in so much pain I couldn't get off my bike. :o  Jim looked over at me and asks "do you need help getting off your bike?"  Seriously! :nervous: :nervous:  I had no business on the highway, let alone on two wheels.  Again, at that point I realized it (I've always been kind of a knucklehead) and I told Jim "when we get on our bikes to head home, my bike will not stop until it's in my garage.......so if you want to stop, that's fine but I'm going to keep moving till I'm home".

I post this, keepin it real, so that others that may find theirselves in similar situations just please re-think it.......listen to your Dr. and "try" not to rush it to much.  I just thank God for being there for me when I wasn't there (common sense) for myself. :nixweiss:

LovemyCVOgirl, I know all about the need to see and sit on the bike through the winter months.  Although I do resist the urge to start it for the reasons stated above.  Winters up here in NH are pretty long too.  And by this point in the winter, "Cabin Fever" is generally rampid up here.

This winter however is exceptionally difficult for me.  First we have hardly received any snow this year and the temps are staying warmer then usual.  Secondly, like you, I received my 2012 SG at the very end of the riding season, and only managed to get 1,000 miles on it before having to put it away for the year, after its first service.  And lastly, I do not have my baby sitting in my garage where I can visit it as needed through the long winter months.  :(

This is due to wanting to get some work done on it over the winter; exhaust, tuner, cams, and time on the dyno.  This in conjunction with my dealer offering free storage if I did all the work there over the winter is the reason for the later.  But I have to confess, I have made the hour long journey a couple times since putting her away, to visit.  ;D

Great story LovemyCVOgirl!  I'll not rub it in too much, but I've ridden into work the last two days in 45dg weather.  It rained yesterday, but today is beautiful out here in the SF Bay Area, ha!  Hope you get to ride again soon.  :2vrolijk_21:

Great story. I would like to say I can relate, like the rest of the the snowbound yankees, but I can't. Currently 64 degrees here in the DFW metro area. Looking forward to heading home and jumping on the Dyna for a bit. :)
